Admissions Stats

LOL! I'm not making any promises.

Don't forget about Olivia, blair! She also had very high SSAT scores and great EC's. She was waitlisted at both Andover and Choate.

There was a kid on here, ChaosTheory, who was rejected from Exeter and some other schools. I, and almost everyone else on this board, will attest that he is a genius. He's doing Multivariable & post-BC Calculus on his own (13 years old), is an AMAZING (really, amazing) creative writer, and possesses an amazing amount of sheer intellectual ability. Studies astrophysics, astronomy, and computer programming/languages on his own. As well as self-studying French.. and also has had his artwork published. As a freshman, he was the president of a few clubs at his local high school, including the math team. Violin for 4 years and is auditioning for the all-state orchestra... was also from underrepresented region (the South) and was applying for the least competitive year (10th). Was rejected at all but Hotchkiss, where he was put in the waiting list (but they have overenrolled, so he was rejected from there as well). Another school I'm not sure if he applied to, Mercersburg, actually courted him for 2 years (I guess since 7th grade), and INVITED him to attend.. they do not do that often, esp. for anyone who is not a recruited Amazonian international squash champion. It just doesn't happen. I don't think he applied there, but it just goes to show how qualified he was. Had all of the usual stats.. 4.0, high SSAT's, etc.

Most of that is true, except for the following regions:

Say it enough...and it will be True.

Too bad the message didn't say that CT was accepted at Exeter on a full ride...because if we're going to make something true, I'm sure that's what he'd prefer we waste our time doing.

well.. i hope he gets into MIT w/ a full ride. That would be nice. $200,000+ for being a smart ass. our semi-meritocracy isn't so bad after all.

from the St. Paul's website: (interesting to note - legacy % is way lower than people on this board have claimed)

Statistics gathered since the April 10 deadline for students to accept the School's offer of admission suggest the highest recorded yield in St. Paul's School history.
With 69 percent of admitted students electing to enroll in the fall of 2007, the School will welcome approximately 530 students for the 2007-08 session. Those numbers include the 170 new students (85 boys and 85 girls) who hail from 25 states and 10 countries. New York (24), Connecticut (19), New Hampshire (17), and Massachusetts (12) are the states with the most representation from new students. Vermont and California will send 11 students each to St. Paul's this fall. Internationally, 10 students apiece will come to the School from South Korea and China.

This year's admissions cycle featured 3,534 total inquiries from prospective students. Of those who inquired, 1,111 completed applications. Competition remained fierce among the talented applicants as only 22 percent were granted admission to the School.

Among those enrolling are 33 new students of color and 28 students who have an alumni relationship with the School. St. Paul's will welcome 107 new Third Formers, 55 new Fourth Formers, and eight new members of the Fifth Form.

Thirty-five percent of new students will receive some form of financial aid. Overall, 33.5 percent of SPS students will receive financial assistance in 2007-08.

Other notables from this year's process include numbers obtained from the online decision process. St. Paul's made its admissions decisions available through a password-protected online portal for the fifth year in a row, and tracking statistics show that 80 percent of applicants accessed their decisions online within the first 48 hours of their March 10 release.

what makes admissions so upsetting sometimes is that iono, for me personally i really set myself up to "get accepted" somewhere, anywhere. like i had this weirdly arrogant voice inside of my head saying that i was bound to get in somewhere because i really, truly wanted to go to "X" school and really truly felt that i had something (well, alot of things lol) to contribute to that one particular school.

seriously tho, my brother (who's 13 as well, but applied for 11th grade and had some eerily similar stats to chaostheory :D) got rejected EVERYWHERE, straight-out rejected- except for deerfield. 0.o
whereas prettyckitty (correct me if imwrong) was an exceptionally strong candidate (stronger than my brother, id say)who got in pretty much everywhere (exeter and andover too idk) except deerfield. :D honestly, this makes no sense to me at all.

then theres a girl at my school, really amazing person, triple citizenship, very talented- got accepted at andover but waitlisted/rejected at lawrenceville or something. imean, how does that happen? then in that case does it mean that lawrenceville is "more competitive" than andover??

when you realize that each school is trying to build a class.

well i meant that admissions decisions arent always consistent :)

NYC schools and boarding schools are two different places. Let's move on from this silly argument.

There are lots of folks that can present a nice package over the web. When you see folks that go 0 for 6 with great stats something is lacking in a real world environment.Sometimes an introvert may use this forum presenting who they wish to be. Sadly these are kids who may have an active mind and intellect, but poor communication skills. The BS needs the whole package because students become live in family members.

Hey, I DO have a very outgoing personality!!
