Going up to D.C. for a summer trip, and will look around Annapolis. Anyone know if they offer them in the summer, or do they only do them in the school year?

also, do these meetings happen in teh summer too?

We visited in the summer last year--it was in the middle of Plebe Summer, unbeknowst to us then!

We got a tour at the visitors center, and then sat for an admissions briefing. (We had to RUN out of the tour early to catch the admissions briefing on time!) That link you posted is good all year long.

Definitely recommend.

alright, thank you very much.

wolfemom to set that up did you call ahead or just show up?

We researched ahead of time, but nothing was set up for us personally. We knew when the tours ran, when the admissions briefings were, had a map, etc. Make SURE to go to the Admissions Briefing if you are thinking of applying. And pay for the tour from the Visitor Center.

Both were absolutely critical pieces of the puzzle for our now-Plebe.

Cool, thanks for the advice!!

We would like to meet you if you are in the Annapolis area and want to learn more about the admissions process. Visit us in Leahy Hall on the Naval Academy campus. Interested students, parents, and educators are encouraged to attend one of four daily briefings (two on Saturday). These briefings will start with a 15-minute video and conclude with an informative discussion led by an active duty Navy or Marine Corps admission officer. These officers are admissions experts and can address the questions you have about gaining entrance into the Naval Academy.

No appointment is necessary to attend one of these briefings.

My son and I did the Admissions briefing last year in early July. I thought it was very worthwhile - good opportunity for Q&A if you have a bunch of questions. We were on our way home from OC Maryland back to Indiana so we didn't have a lot more time -- and did not do the Visitor's Center tour. We did walk the grounds and I asked my son if he wanted to go into Bancroft to at least see the display room and he said no that he was good. His philosopy was if things worked out and he got in, it really didn't matter - it is what it is. He's living it first hand now as he plows through plebe summer!

When we sat through the Admissions Briefing, lots of people had good questions. Not my son. He sat quietly.

As we left the building, I said, "Didn't you have any questions?"

He said, "The only question I have is if I can STAY."

:-)

Brought tears to my eyes--then and now.

It's the only place he applied, because it's the only place he wanted to go.

so even though I'm a candidate for 2013 they dont want me to call ahead to set something up??

No. Just show up to a briefing time. Go to the Visitor's Center in order to get a tour, they're pretty cheap.

We told the tour guide that our son was a candidate, and then much of what he said on the tour was directed at him. There were only us and 2-4 other people on the tour.

The admission briefing had maybe 10 people in it, of course ALL of them were candidates and their parents.

thanks! i appreciate the help. i'll be there august 11th maybe i'll get lucky and see some of what goes on plebe summer
