Admissions Variables

So I was wondering...

I'm from South Carolina which I'm assuming is a state considered by most to be a podunk, backwards state. Anyways, even though I'm a white male, does going to a public school in a state like SC give someone a better shot at getting accepted to good schools on the East Coast? I was just wondering in what ways affirmative action works besides racially...

It depends on the school. If it's a school that doesn't see many applicants from SC, then it may help a bit, but it won't put you over the edge if you don't have decent stats to begin with. The states that REALLY help are states like Wyoming, Idaho, Nebraska which just don't send that many kids out of state to school. Good luck.
