Hello everyone, I wondering what my chances are to get in to OSU. It’s my dream school and the only school I plan on attending.
My stats:
ACT: 28
GPA: 3.93w 3.86uw
Plenty of sports and volunteers work
Chosen out of a select few from my school to attend a leadership conference at OSU
I’ve worked most of my high school career
I also go to a top 10 high school in state so it is very competitive.
Do I have what it takes? Thanks
Intended major? Class rank? Any hooks like first generation, Pell grant, or minority?
If you are in top 10% of your HS class, you should be fine for all colleges but engineering.
I think i will major in Business Administration, my schools class rank is not out as of now but I should easily be top 20%. Like I said earlier my school is very competitive though.
Your ACT is under the 50% mark (25-75% range is 27-31). Your odds would go up if you can gain a couple more points on the ACT. You need to find at least one safety college besides OSU that you would be happy at, are pretty certain of getting into, and you know you can afford it. OSU may or may not happen for you, even if you raise your score.
Based on what I have seen on this forum and elsewhere, someone not in top 10% of their HS but in top 25% needs to have a higher ACT – around 30-31. Not trying to be discouraging, but you might want to try and raise your ACT or be on the lookout for fall-back options.
In the class that entered in Fall 2015, 62% were in top 10% of their HS and the average ACT was 28.9. Being below average on both the sides puts one at a disadvantage, unless they have a hook like being a minority, Pell grant awardee, first generation or recruited athlete.
Anyways, good luck to you!
