Is admissions easier the earlier you apply? Or if you apply for summer admissions instead of Fall? My d would love to go to UF but I am concerned she won't get accepted. She has a 3.5 and ACT of 25.

You might have a better chance if you apply for summer term, but nobody really knows for sure. Also now with the death of early decision, theres no clear advantage to applying early, but it definitely won't hurt you.

It is always a good idea to apply early for different reasons. First, processing materials can take a while and you never know what might happen. Also, Admission officers might have more time to review your application. Finally, once the application is done, is something else that you don't have to worry about.

In my opinion, if they really want to admit you, they will change the term, even if it is not the one that you initially applied for.

I agree with kolom. The earlier you apply the better. Not only is there more time for admissions to review your application (read your essay, etc) but you have more time to make sure everything is properly received and logged in. I even called and spoke to an admissions officer close to application deadline time to make sure they had everything (errors are made and I just felt better talking to an actual person). I think I applied as soon as the application came on line...my only concern was that I scored quite a bit higher on my SAT after I had applied and was afraid it would not be looked at after my preliminary application review. Admissions assured me my new score was factored in. Another good thing about applying early...is that you can send in your housing deposit and if accepted - get an early housing application date. As far as applying for Summer vs. Fall, when I was at an admissions meeting touring UF last spring..the admissions officer was explaining the new "no more early decisions" and he stated over and over that it did not matter what term you applied for - UF would place you where they wanted you to be. So Good Luck and Go Gators!

The key to getting in is a good application.
Apply early and write a good essay.

I had 3.26uw and 1270 and I got in. As long as you are above the minimum cutoff, you have some chance. The higher your stats the better.

They like extra curriculars, and activities. Write them well though, try to use up every character you get to describe the activity.

It's too late now to do more activities, so make sure the ones you have count.

Anyone get in with a higher amount of outside high school EC's? My D has the usual high school honoraries, and she participates weekly in those. She's also played a little sports, but her consistant EC relates to church activities: multiple mission trips for many years, teaching sunday school class for pre-schoolers on a weekly basis, youth group, other ministry opportunities. She'll have a summer job this summer, and she's worked for me as a paid caregiver for almost 18 mo. for her g'ma who has alzhiemer's. (This is not fun caregiving, either). I guess her theme would definitely be service oriented, but more so outside of school.

When does UF start accepting applications for Fall 2009?

collegesearch2- My second daughter applied last July for the summer B term and was flat out rejected from UF with the same stats as your daughter. She goes to a very competitive private school and had a 3.6 GPA in tough classes (honors physics, honors calculus etc...)and a 1140 SAT (1800 if you include writing). She wrote a terrific essay and had over 250 hours of community service plus loads of band EC's.
Her sister is a current UF student.
We did not expect her to be admitted but...hoped. UF was a reach for her and is a reach for your daughter as well (unless she gets her ACT/SAT up). Of course your daughter should apply ($30 is still a bargain in terms of application fees) but she must have a back up that she will be happy to attend. Apply in July, or as soon as the new application portal is open online and apply for summer B. If she retakes the SAT/ACT in the fall then have it sent. Good Luck!

Thanks to everyone for your advice!
