Hey
I was just wondering if Michigan State uses weighed gpas or unweighed

If not, can anyone tell me what is MSU's exact way of admissions involving GPAs?

Thanks

I’m fairly certain that MSU admissions takes both unweighted and weighted GPA into account. More importantly, I know that they look at class rank in relation to GPA as well.

But still remember, GPA is only one factor in admissions. There is no clear-cut process that says “2.9 GPA, OUT” or “3.6 GPA, IN.” They look at the whole package, including your essay, ACT/SAT scores, GPA, curriculum/grade trends and ECs (although emphasis does seem to be placed upon GPA/test scores).

They do take out classes that aren’t core academic classes like gym though.

and EC is really important?
my unweighed is 3.3, weighed is 3.76
ACT is 25
sounds good?
and even if i do get accepted, would these stats get me money with EFC as less than 1000?

ECs are very important especially when you have lower stats like that. The middle 50% of admitted students have about an average of 3.5-3.8 GPA and an average ACT of about 24-29. I know people this year that got rejected wih a 3.2 unweighted and a 32 on their ACT. I also know people who got accepted with a 3.0 and 24 on the ACT. Apply early to improve your odds.

Those stats would not get much (if any) merit money at MSU. I got in with a 3.8, 33 ACT and still managed to get absolutely no merit money. They did however give me a full ride this year through their Spartan Advantage Program because my family made less than 20k of income. I don’t know what the specific requirements are but you may look them up on the website.

Thanks
I was hoping on getting money because my EFC was so low. I knew my stats were already doomed. So the need based money is given based on the best MERIT need based students? or just first come first served? or everyone gets a piece of the need based money?

Need-based money is only based off need as shown off your EFC. It is given on a 1st come 1st serve basis according to available funds so make sure to apply early for the best possible chance at getting any kind of need or merit based money

Again, look into the Spartan Advantage Program. It really is a life saver for really low income kids. Good luck to ya!

Thanks. I will look into it.
