Admissions

Hey,
I was wondering what exactly does U of I look for.

Many people have told me that it is basically a number game (just looking for ACT + GPA).

Or do they take into consideration your e.c., cs, and most importantly ESSAYS?!?

Thanks

Importance varies. For business college, you should assume essays and ECs are very important for all applicants; for others they range from less importance for high stat applicants (a bad essay can harm you, otherwise they have little impact) to very important for borderline applicants.

For most public schools, it’s GPA, ACT and Class rank. Essays and ECs are still important, but do not matter nearly as much as they do for private schools.

Public schools have to keep their numbers up for funding, where private schools do not receive funding in the first place, therefor just look for all around good applicants.
