My D has applied to UCSC for fall of 2015 and it is a reach school for her. I was looking at the school website today and I was blown away to see they had over 40,000 applicants from HS seniors. According to the website, they plan to admit around 3500.
Last year the admit rate was about 56%.
Do I understand correctly that this year it will be less than 10%???
confused. please advise.
thanks
You may be confusing the 3500 number with the amount of students they expect to enroll of the many acceptances they will likely send out.
While a UC, it’s more of a mid-low tier UC and many kids use it as a “safety” school. They won’t get that many students to matriculate if they significantly reduce their acceptances.
3500 was probably the number they hope to enroll. Most schools wll accept 3 times the number they plan to enroll so around 11000. Here is a link to show the admission rate for all UC’s

ok thank you. That sounds a little better, but still seems to indicate that this year the admit rate will be significantly lower than past years. By almost half!
