But why not???? I think everybody WANTS them to game the numbers. If I had to choose between calling them principled or lazy, I'd lean towards the latter...

why does it say in this letter I got from upenn "You rose to the top within an extraordinary group of appicants during a spring when we admitted a mere 11% to the College"?

RD was 11% probably.

^ That's why he said "during a spring when we admitted a mere 11%." ED admits were, of course, during the fall.

why does anyone care about the negligible differences between the class of '11 and '12?

dude we're about to go to school together...can't we just all get along?

hope to see some of you during scholar's preview this weekend (woot!)

-go pennginering! (:P)

11%! woohoo! Penn CAS is more selective than Brown and Dartmouth.

^ That's in RD. What were Brown and Dartmouth's RD admit rates this year?

i think penn state was more competitive for the class of 2012. hopefully this means we get the attractive freshmen girls

ilovebagels, sorry to burst your bubble but that's actually not true. Dartmouth RD rate was 9.5% this year, my guess is Brown was about 10%.

Overall Dartmouth was 13.2%, Brown 13.4%.

^ Of course, that's before use of the waiting list (which may get quite a workout this year). :)

Blast. honor-suicide it is for me then. Mengcheng, fetch me my honor-suicide sword.

As a Blue Devil, I am compelled to say that low admit rate doesn't necessarily correlate with being smarter.. :D

I bet there are more Dukies trolling the Penn forums than the other way around. Wonder why..

so is this bad news for the waitlisted people? because it means that penn has already made adjustments for a lower yield by accepting more?

Nobody really knows--only time will tell.

whats the acceptance rate for wharton?

Penn usually keeps the separate per-school admit rates internal--although they have also been known to reveal the statistics to students during information sessions at Penn Previews...

They accepted more people so that means if they kept with the same number as last year it would have dropped admit rates?

No, that would be the matriculation rate, which is admit rate and yield rate.

It leads to a lovely misleading statement for a college with high admit rates and low yields. They can say "only 15% of students who apply matriculate"--implying it's thanks to a low admit rate.
