I obviously cannot attend both, but I'm thinking to attend 1 day for one and 3 days for the other, or split 2 days each. Problem is that it would take 8-12 hours (3 hours added since I'm flying from Sacramento) for the flight so there goes half a day. Which would you suggest I do? Should I just give all 3 days to Harvard considering my proximity to Stanford and just visit on my own some other time? I really would like to get an in-depth feel for the 2012 student body at both places and how well I mesh.

I think this was very poor scheduling on the universities' part since there is bound to be substantial overlap between their admits.

For those of you in this situation, what are you planning to do?

Just a Stanford parent and not in your situation, but if you really want a feel for your future class, and have the energy and resources you could probably do the 1/3 split you suggest. I went to Admit Weekend at Stanford last spring with my d, and it was amazingly well organized and wonderful, but we both felt 3 days was too long. She was able to commune with her future classmates and meet plenty of upperclassmen and professors as well during the first day or two. In fact, the last day, she was in Stanford "overwhelm" and we went off and explored Palo Alto on our own.

FYI, if you do decide to attend Stanford in the fall, you and your parents should know that many of the key information sessions (with various deans, etc.) they have at Admit Weekend are repeated at dropoff weekend in late September.

Good luck, and congratulations on having this choice to make.

Well they’re offering advice to this guy from Sacramento. Maybe because of his location it makes sense to do Harvard’s weekend, but the answer varies depending on the student.

There are only so many dates on which AW can happen. It can’t be after the deadline, and it has to be far enough from April 1st that admitted students can plan their travel. That leaves at most two possible dates, and both schools are probably going to prefer the later one.

There is a program for students who cannot make admit weekend but still want to visit. You need to contact Stanford Visitor Information Services (email is visitorinfo@stanford.edu) and tell them your situation. They will then pair you up with an undergrad you can room with so you can at least experience Stanford before coming to school here. In my opinion, this may be the better choice anyways as admit weekend isn’t really an accurate representation of a typical day-in-the-life here anyways.
Good luck!

I am facing this exact problem right now, i plan on attending the first three days of stanfords admit weekend then fly 6 hours (with a three hour time difference) to boston and spend 3 days there. I’ll be tired after it all but hopefully it’ll give me a good feel for the two schools.
