Admit Weekend & Financial Aid

Hi fellow admits congratulations to everyone first :)

For those applying for financial aid, have you got an email from financial aid office about your award or application not completed? On Axess when I clicked "view award letters" it said "no award letters to view" and for "view financial aid" it said "no self-service access for this aid year"... I guess this might happen because my financial aid application has been lost on the way and thus not completed, but I don't know really cuz other colleges would email me if my financial aid application is not complete but Stanford didn't. Any ideas?

Also do they pay the flights to admit weekend?

Thank you for your input and look forward to seeing you all soon!

As I recall, Stanford does NOT pay for flights to Admit Weekend. You must find your own way to get there.

“No Award Letters to view” ? That’s strange. I suppose it’s possible they haven’t finished making your FA package yet, or you could call the FA Office and see what’s up. Ask them what you’re missing and what you need to send.
I guess you yourself could check if you’ve completed your FAFSA, CSS, IDOC, etc, and make sure they were all sent to Stanford.

Yeah I guess it’s possible that some of they were lost on the way. It just confuses me that they never email me so I don’t know if they were all sent to them or it’s just that Stanford hasn’t finished my package yet… Did you get any emails from Stanford regarding financial aid or you only viewed your award on Axess?

I only viewed my Award Letter on Axess, but I made sure to send in all of my financial information early in February.

I guess I need to call them tomorrow to see. Thank you for your information.

Once you register for Admit Weekend you’ll get a notification about Travel Grants if you qualify, I’m in a high income bracket and even I qualified (east coast). They told me they’d pay up to $350 for my tickets and transportation to campus, which is enough to take me from VA to Palo Alto and back for free. The only cost will be to my dad who’s also coming to see campus. So yes, they’ll pay for flights

Hey Andrea I’m having the exact same problem, and like you ill call them and try to clear it up tomorrow

@littlebuilder - How long after you registered did the email about travel grants arrive? I registered about 1/2 an hour ago and got a confirmation email, but nothing about travel grants… Does this mean I don’t qualify? Do you think if I email them back I can ask about receiving a travel grant?

Hi Rick have you called them? What did they say?

To echo Pinkmnms’ question, @littlebuilder and any others: how long did it take after registration to receive the email about travel grants?

I got an email about grants the day after I registered, but I registered before RD decisions came out (got in SCEA) so it may take a bit longer to confirm eligibility with your financial documents. BTW congrats to you all for getting in!

Hey everyone - I just got an email today about travel grants to visit Stanford. I registered for Admit Weekend on Sunday. So you’ll probably get an email soon, just be patient after registering.

@littlebuilder @Pinkmnms
Did they say they’ll book the tickets for you or it’s just you book your flights yourself, show them tickets, and get money from them?

For the record, I did receive a travel grant 4 years ago to visit on Admit Weekend. I’m not sure what the process is but I agree with Pinkmnms, just be patient or call an admission rep.

Hey, I just got an email about travel grants. If I understand it correctly, they give you the travel agency to get the arrangements from, however it also states if you have already booked tickets they will pay part of your travel expenses b/c they aren’t going to make you have to cancel.

The travel grant includes air fare as well as money for a bus to campus. They only pay for students, not family.

Boy, times have changed. I got into Stanford in 1985. Yes, I am old. I got a full ride, scholarship-wise. I was living on the East Coast and asked my mom if I could visit the campus (for the first time) during April vacation. She said, “No, you can see it in September when you enroll.” So that’s what I did. They didn’t have Admit Weekend or travel grants back then, to my knowledge.

thurgie, I’m a few years before you, was also on the east coast, and not only did I not visit, my first every trip on an airplane was when I went in September! Times have changed, but this is a good change, especially the travel grants so everyone can go.
