Admit weekend plane tix & sightseeing?

For people who don't have tix yet for april:

a handful of us (from LA area) are planning this sightseeing trip thing to SF after they let us go on Sunday 4/23. So post if you're interested - i have a feeling i won't want to go home anyway. that and i need to seriously scope out the boba situation. lol
so far the plan is to leave campus, go to SF, fool around until maybe 4 or 5, then go to SF airport together and fly whereever we live. awesomeness

Also, LA area people who don't have tix yet and want to fly with us, post or pm me.

is anyone bringing parents?

haha....no loser better bring their parents....

things are more fun that way

so yea....

leaving at 5 or 6 pm on sunday sounds great

omg, i'm so effin excited for admit weekend!!

my flight leaves from san jose at 3:40 - so maybe i could stay till about lunch?

i hope no one's leaving too early... 3:40 sounds workable, except it's a different airport...you guys did this too early! lol

the website said stanford is equidistant from SF and San Jose, so I'd rather be in SF since i got a travel grant anyway.
see you there!!!
leave your parents, AP books, calculators and worries at home! We're going to stanford!!! woot woot

hey, that sounds awesome! my name is cristina and im from florida. ya, im leaving the 'rents at home. do you know what time we'd get out of stanford? also, how are we getting into SF? thanks

ya - my mom is coming with me but she's visiting her family in Napa the whole weekend - we are just flying together Wednesday and Sunday. So she could pick me up in San Francisco on her way back down to San Jose at whatever time I need to leave. Then you can stay as long as the people leaving from SF want to.

I won't be either - I live much closer to you :)

Getting to S.F:[ul][]You can take CalTrain from Palo Alto Station to S.F. ($5.25 one way). The train only runs once an hour, but the Palo Alto station is conveniently located right outside the Stanford main entrance.
[]do your sight-seeing in San Francisco...
[]Take BART from S.F. directly to SFO's International Terminal. It's a 30-minute ride that costs $5.15 one-way.
[]Depending on the number of people involved, it may be more efficient and economical to just grab a taxi from S.F. to the airport.[/ul]Don't bring a lot of luggage to Stanford, but do bring a camera. That way, you won't have to lug it around the City (never, ever call S.F. "frisco" !!!)

Stanford may offer free shuttle service from the campus to the Palo Alto Caltrain station. The FREE Marguerite Shuttle is a great way to get around Stanford on and off campus. They even offer weekend evening trips to malls, movies, etc. Stanford really does take great care of its students!

I just can't tell from the Stanford website how the shuttle will run on Admit Weekend, but there will be plenty of information available during the weekend.

Sorry but trying to go sight-seeing in S.F., if you have a 3 p.m. flight from San Jose Airport (SJC), just won't work, as the City and SJC are 50 miles apart. Technically, you CAN get to SJC from the San Francisco by:[ul][]taking Caltrain from S.F. to the Santa Clara Station, which is right across from Santa Clara University
[]take local bus VTA #10 Airport Flyer from the Caltrain station to SJC[/ul]
You would have to leave San Francisco at 12:00 noon in order to arrive at SJC by 1:55 p.m., or leave the City at 1:00 p.m. to arrive at SJC by 2:55 p.m.

Caltrain ($6.75 S.F. to Santa Clara) only runs once an hour, but the VTA #10 (which is a FREE AIRPORT SHUTTLE) runs every 15 minutes.

I don't really need to site see (seen it before and will be showing around a friend on spring break,) but just going to the city for a couple of hours might be fun.

Purplerain - what exactly did you mean by "sightseeing"?

I'm not flying out of SFO (ok, so I live in San Jose), but I'd love to tag along with you guys! And I'm pretty good at navigating public transit, if that helps.

just FYI, you don't have to be part of the LA gang (whoa, that sounds serious) to do this with us. You just might wanna fly out of SF airport at around 6 or 6:30 PM (most of us, but you can ditch us earlier or whatever) sunday to whereever you might live. The non-specific calender in the awesome admissions folder said Stanford'll be kicking us out after breakfast on Sunday, so we're probably gonna go Caltrain to SF and fool around. (Yes, Avalon, we need you! lol)
Calikent,
by "sightseeing" i guess we're gonna walk around and just breath in some gay vibes? I'm sure someone will know where the cool hangouts are. But i will probly be buying shoes and making sure that there will be a good source of boba next year so i won't be sad. lol

gsp, what is the best way to get from the San Jose airport to Stanford?

Hmmm, I don't see any info on the Admit Weekend website... <a href="http://admit.stanford.edu/aw.html%5B/url%5D">http://admit.stanford.edu/aw.html</a></p>

Via public transportation:[ul][]take the VTA #10 FREE SHUTTLE to the Santa Clara Caltrain Station. It runs every 15 minutes.
[]walk out to the El Camino Real (100-150 feet), directly across the street from the Santa Clara University main entrance, and take the VTA local bus #522 to Palo Alto Caltrain Station (50 minutes / $1.75 one-way). It also runs every 15 minutes. VTA bus #22 also goes to Palo Alto, but is a slower ride (70 minutes).
[]take the FREE Marguerite Shuttle from Palo Alto Caltrain to the Stanford campus. Hopefully, the bus driver will know where Admit Weekend participants are going on campus. Chances are, Stanford will have greeters and/or signs at the Palo Alto Caltrain station.
[]you could also take Caltrain from Santa Clara to Palo Alto, instead of the VTA bus. Caltrain doesn't run as often, is a nicer ride, and is more expensive (32 minutes / $3.75 one-way).
[*]parents may prefer to rent a car, but be aware that parking on the Stanford campus is $12 daily, and is strictly enforced.[/ul]

thanks a lot!

Yes, I was going to mention VTA #10 to Caltrain to SF, but 522 (or 22 -- the SLOW version of 522) is less costly, though not as fast. It's not too bad, though.

Other than taking a taxi or commercial shuttle, I don't know of another way from San Jose Airport to Stanford. Stanford is 18 miles from San Jose Airport (SJC) and 21 miles from San Franciso Airport (SFO).

A taxi is too expensive, and a commercial shuttle is also pricey ($25-$35, not really sure) but would get you to Stanford without having to board 3 busses, or bus to Caltrain to bus.

Dude, I am sooooo looking forward to meeting al of you guys. Go Cardinal 2010!

You guys may want to come up with a backup plan, just in case it is raining on April 23rd. I have no idea what that would look like.

I would like to point out one transportation option that may have been overlooked.

SamTrans KX bus runs from Stanford Shopping Center to San Francisco and stops at SFO on the way. It's cheap ($1.50), runs often 7 days a week (twice an hour), and probably would work out well.

The bus goes about as fast as Caltrain on Caltrain's weekend schedule. So you could take the bus to San Fran from Stanford and then take it back to SFO, on the cheap.

I know I'm taking it.
