Admit Weekend

Well, we're getting on an airplane this afternoon from the midwest and heading to Stanford's Admit Weekend. Looks like the weather forecast is pretty good and the event lineup is pretty extensive. Best of luck to those of you who are also still trying to finalize your college selection. Decision day is coming!

Hope to see you/your kid there–I am going to admit weekend as well (and I am 99% decided on Stanford). That event lineup sure is something–quite tough to pick and choose which events to go to!

You’re right, quomodo–there’s so much going on right now for Admit Weekend that it’s impossible to attend every event that interests you. Fortunately, many of the events will also be on offer during New Student Orientation week in September, plus you can always arrange to meet with faculty, staff, advisors, etc. at mutually-convenient other times once classes begin. So feel free to follow your bliss this weekend!

Have a great time, everyone! I’m international and for financial reasons won’t be coming, but I’ll definitely be attending in the fall. I’m actually incredibly jealous. GO FOUNTAIN HOPPING.

Really people - Wow!

Not sure how else to say it but, you can’t even imagine how incredible this place is. For those that attended - they know.

^Agree. Just got back from Admit Weekend. Unbelievable. Never expected Stanford to be so gorgeous, so huge, so nice. D was overwhelmed (in a good way). Immediately felt at home and just committed to Stanford!

Definitely amazing! Made my decision extremely difficult in the end. (I was leaning way Yale just a few days ago) In the end just went with my gut feeling and committed!

@hahagooman, congrats! My son did the same thing a few years back --committed to Stanford while giving up Yale in the last minutes. You will have wonderful four years at Stanford.

Welcome to the Farm, dignified1, hahagooman and everyone else who committed to Stanford recently!! You’ve made an excellent decision. :)

@dignified1, congrats on your D’s decision. Here are two more people who did the same thing: Stanford over Harvard:

Yes, Admit weekend was AWESOME. It was our first visit to campus. D was leaning towards Stanford over Yale before our visit and came home yesterday and pushed the Stanford YES button. We are all very excited for her. Wish I was the one going to Palo Alto for four years! It is a beautiful place and the staff did an excellent job of making it a fun visit for the admits. Congratulations to everyone who go admitted and will be attending. We feel very blessed

Congratulations, Midwest Pop, and to your D, Welcome to the Farm! You really do have to be here to experience the energy unique to Stanford–it’s almost impossible to explain in words, though that fact hasn’t stopped me from trying. ;)

Brownboy87: My D did give Fountain Hopping a try during Admit Weekend. It actually happened to be at midnight on Friday night. She said that they hopped into 6-7 fountains. The first one was cold but after that he body was numb so the rest of them didn’t bother her! What a fun tradition for Stanford students. We saw lots of fountain hopping while we were there (although I wasn’t on campus at Midnight!!)

Also thanks for the congrats zenkoan. I can’t begin to describe the feeling that we got from the Stanford campus and students. It’s pretty special.

Had to laugh at your post, MidwestPop. Was your daughter in Roble? My D’s entire dorm went fountain hopping at midnite on Friday. She said exactly the same thing - she was totally numb after the first one!
What a wonderful weekend - both from the student and parent perspective. My D decided not to attend any other admitted student programs, but she commented that, unlike some friends at some of the Ivy weekends, she felt as if they had been treated as as Stanford students - free to decide what they wanted to attend and pretty much when, rather than being herded in groups. She also was glad she had committed earlier in the week and could enjoy the festivities stress-free!
My husband and I could not have been more impressed or happy

Welcome to the Farm, ydnar’s D!!

What a funny coincidence… Our dorm went fountain hopping midnight friday as well. Maybe I was in the same dorm.

thanks, zenkoan - she loved everything - except the food!!

I thought the food was excellent for college food… And i ate at Lagunita, Wilbur and Flomo

admit weekend was great-I already had decided to attend, but wanted not to miss a minute of the experience. My first thought when I awoke at home the day after leaving S was “I miss Stanford!”. Most amazing story: parents were talking with a couple whose son was admitted but they weren’t sure if they would have to move there so son could live with them rather than in dorm because son just turned 14!!!

My D is also having withdrawal symptoms. She can’t wait to get back and begin the experience.

14? Hmm… Maybe one of the Resident Fellow families will consider adopting him.
