admits without anything AMAZING

you didn't cure cancer. you didn't write a bestselling novel every year since you were 12. You didn't win seimens-westinghouse whatever that competition is. You weren't even valedictorian.
Do people like this exist at Yale. Or should I just not bother, because everyone who goes to Yale is intensely amazing. I am nothing close to the things listed above. I have never won national competitions... the press does NOT know my name.

And probably that is 70% of those who attend Yale. Honestly, it is hard to get into a school like Yale, but you don't need to be a celebrity or someone with insane honors to be a Yalie.

I don't know. I know that statistically not every person at yale won NMS and was a val...but it seems like everyone has something 'going for them' I mean are there people who are really and truly just normal/average? Like, nothing nationally recognized...just people who like school and want to go to a really good one.

all i did was get a high ACT score, be 12th in my class, take APs, be Mexican and a Jehovah's Witness.

that's pretty cool! anyone else??

....I'm really normal. I did OK on the SAT, I'm 4th in my class and I have like 8 APs overall. Maybe being from ga helped, along with being a minority! I'm so excited, however, to be surrounded by the aforementioned people!! Good luck

2 friends of mine got in due to legacy

4th in your class is probably something to brag about, dear. Good job! Congrats to everyone who got into Yale, btw. Any other good stories?

i'm pretty normal i guess. i work at an ice cream store.

hahaha ice cream store lol. A lot of people have crappy jobs but strong apps and other ec's magnusrex. I am sure somewhere you had something good! Congrats to all of you!

I'm the epitome of normal. 2070 SAT, A couple of AP's, ran a couple of local clubs, no vali here :)

yeah! awesome, Ferny! (unless ran a couple of local clubs = raised $100000000 for starving children in africa & started your own skydiving club & a started new national tutoring program for middle-school children)

I'm pretty normal, too. No 800s on any subject tests, I got a B (gasp!) junior year in trig/pre calc honors, not a valedictorian...I did have ec's that I was really interested in and involved in. I think that in some ways it's more important to be passionate about something and get really into it than to have perfect scores on tests.

Are winning national competitions important? I haven't won anything, just participating in various volunteer orgs.

Winning national awards or competitions certainly won't hurt, but it's by no means a must. Really, out of the 20-or-so people in my entryway, no one did much that was recognized on a national level in high school.

Dedication and leadership roles are probably more important.

Is it possible to be "AWESOME" without being "AMAZING"?

Or is "AMAZING" better than "AWESOME"?

For the purposes of this thread at least:

amazing = stats that leave you amazed. You can't beleive there are people this smart sigh

awesome = intangables. In some way, this person is just generally really cool.
