Admittance Chances as a Transfer Student

I am currently a freshmen in the honors program at a competitive college and am considering transferring to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from out-of-state. I realize admissions are much harder for a non-resident and am wondering what my chances are as a potential transfer student. I received a 4.0 my first quarter in college and in addition have been active with organizations on campus. I had a 3.9 GPA in high school and got a 30 on my ACT. However, I recently received an underage drinking violation at the beginning of this winter quarter and wont be "convicted" until after my application decision is sent back. I will, however, have to explain my criminal charge on the application among the other legal questions asked. If I explain the event and the progressive steps I have been taking since, how badly will this affect my chances? Do I still have a shot at even getting in? Feedback is appreciated!

Why are you considering transferring?

Will you be able to afford to go OOS to UNC?

Do you have a good lawyer to help you with the drinking issue. Was it a driving issue or a caught at a bar drinking kind of thing (don’t drink and drive.)

I don’t think it will drastically effect your decision. Underage drinking is not like a DUI; many college presidents are even pushing to lower the drinking age. You have a good shot otherwise. If you really want to attend UNC then take a chance and apply.
