I am currently working on my second semester at the Peralta district of colleges, but all of my classes right now are at BCC (Berkeley City College). I have spoke with several people at admissions, and was told if you have an accumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher, you have an exponentially higher chance of getting in than those who have a lower GPA, even with extracurricular activities. The person I spoke with stressed the idea that I should only work on my getting my GPA higher, and not do anything else. I was already a research assistant at a psychology professor's lab and I really liked it, so I continued it. If my accumulative GPa for 2011 is below a 3.6 (maybe 3.4) but I have 2 years of experience as a research assistant at UC Berkeley, do you think this helps my chance of being admitted? I am going to incorporate how I started at the bottom of the totem pole when I started there, but since, with perseverance and hard work, I am working in charge of other newer RA's, and am now working with brain genetics. I still have 3 semesters to boost my GPA (spring summer fall) and continue my work as an RA. Does anyone know people who were affiliated with the university before applying and got in?

whats ur major?

Hello,

my major is psychology, and i am essentially done, with the classes that are required for the major. So when (hopefully) I get into Berkeley I was told I can apply to take graduate classes, specialty psych courses which are worth 1 or 2 credits, or retake classes I earned a B or C in (even though no change will be made on my transcript) but just so it looks good to future institutions. I will be taking a minor at Berkeley though, English or Philosophy, I have a lot of time to decide though. So I am using the IGETC curriculum to apply to the college of letters and sciences

psych is HIGHLY impacted at UCB, so ur GPA is really low for it, they usually tell u, that u need a 3.8+ to be competitive, they being UCB reps. I’m not sure how much that on EC is going to help you, but hopefully u can pull ur GPA up and ull be good.
