Admitted Anthro Majors?

Thanks for the kind words! I’m waiting on UCSD and UCSC - if I don’t get in this quarter, I’ll reapply at UCLA and UCSB as well as UCSC/UCSD next time around. The application fees have been a little pricey which limited my choices, though I think I qualify to have them waived now. UCSD has been quite encouraging about my chances, but they haven’t accepted or denied me officially yet, so who knows.

I swear, sometimes I want to go back in time and find myself and go, NO! NO! THAT IS NOT THE WAY TO DROP CLASSES!

On the other hand, it’s encouraging in a way to know that it is my low GPA keeping me from UCLA and not something else that I just don’t know about.

Major: Anthropology, Intl Studies - Anthro at UCSD
Applied: UCI, UCR, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, UCB
Accepted: All but UCB
GPA: ~3.38
TAP: No
EC’S: volunteer, work, clubs. good essay

@ SuperNonTrad, some people get admitted with a similar gpa or even lower than yours. i believe an upward trend and good ec’s look better than just a low gpa. plus, talking about how you’ve learned from your grades in the past or showing how you’ve grown in your essays will help. good luck!

Do you guys think that Anthro will become an “impacted” major soon at UCLA?

Looking at [Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2009 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof09_mjr.htm#TFT), it seems that all the majors with 300+ applicants have an impacted status (except Philo @303). Anthro had 374 applicants last year, and it’s been growing every year.

Just curious, because it seems odd that it is such a popular major, yet many people that I talk to have no idea what it is. “Oh, you study old people?”

It also makes me feel better for getting into UCLA as Anthro, because I didn’t realize how many other people applied. Anywho, congrats to those who are doing Anthro & to those who got into UCs!

Congrats to everyone!!!
i am currently a first year at ucr and I hope to also one day be going to ucla!!!
I currently have a 3.4 gpa, halfway done with my breadth requirements, and 3/4 completed for pre-reqs. Im part of RHA, nscs, 2 clubs, and if i am able to raise my gpa to a 3.5 I will be joining the honors program here for next year. Also, this summer I will be doing archaeological field work in belize for three weeks. I was recently hired but have not started working yet because the fingerprinting place is lagging it. I truly love anthropology and my question to all of you is:
What can I do to increase my chances if admittance?!?!?

I need everyone’s help so that I can one day accomplish this long term goal of mine!!!

:)
thanks and congrats yall!

I’m sure there are a lot of things you can to improve your gpa like takes classes over the summer and such. But coming from another UC is going to be pretty tough. I’m moving back home from a CSU and going to a community college just so my chances of getting into a UC are better. Your field work will look very impressive, though.

well Ive been told that they give UCs same priority as CC students.
what gpa should I aim for?
hopefully Ill have a 3.5, but my 5 unit classes are killing me…
are my ECs ok though

The GPA you need to aim for is a 4.0, from here on out.

UC’s don’t have the same priority, but they are next in line after CCC students.
