Admitted as engineering major, want to possibly switch to Marshall

I was admitted to USC as a Computer Science major, but I've recently come to a realization that computer science is most definitely not what I want to do at all, and I now I don't want to start my first semester taking CS related courses. Is it possible for me to say, come in as undeclared, and then switch to Marshall or CLAS second semester? Or do I have no choice but to tough it out and take the CS first semester required courses, and then switch to a different major 2nd semester?

When you come for orientation - which for Internationals is scheduled just before the semester begins so you can just make the one trip and then stay - you can discuss changing your major. Most students are able to make the change at orientation if they are staying within the same school, but you are changing schools - I think there have been some recent posts about getting into Marshall from another major, maybe that poster will pop in and give specifics.

Even if you cannot complete the change right now, don’t worry - there is no need to “tough it out!” Just concentrate on GE for now. There are some slight differences in the GE requirements for Marshall, so be sure you are taking classes that will apply to the program you are moving into.

Remember that most students come into college “undeclared” and don’t choose a major until the end of their sophomore year. There is plenty of time to make the change!

P.S. alamemom herself might have changed her undergrauate major FIVE times… and then selected a completely different area for graduate study… So I fully support your current indecision!

When you go to Orientation, your OA will have more information to help you, but you can attempt to switch into Marshall there. I think there’s a GPA requirement because I know of someone who applied to switch into Marshall at orientation but they denied her. If you wait until school starts, you’re going to have a much harder time transferring in because Marshall’s requirements are pretty intense and there’s lots of competition: [USC Marshall Undergraduate Program Admissions Internal Major Applicant](http://www.marshall.usc.edu/undergradprogram/admissions/admissions-internal-major-applicant.htm) “The internal applicant pool is competitive, and spaces are limited. Students should not enroll in another college at USC on the assumption that they will transfer into the Marshall School of Business.”

I’d say to see what happens at Orientation and then decide from there.

OP,

I would apply to Marshall NOW. Dont wait until your a sophomore because then it gets really competitive. All you have to do is call the marshall undergrad office and tell them you would like to be considered for the business major to start in the fall. they will review the application you sent to usc/engineering and get back to you with a decision-----but no worries, if they say no you are still in your engineering program

Can you minor in business if you are in engineering?
