Admitted but no scholarship?

My S got a Welcome to the Trojan family package today in the mail accepting him. No invite to interview for scholarship or anything. Is that normal?

That happened to me too! I don’t know what to think of it…

My S got accepted without a scholarship too. Did yours also apply to the Bacc/Md program?

Same as me… Just got it less than 5 minutes ago actually.

No he was admitted to Poly sci pre law

The Bacc/MD candidates are often admitted in the January wave (this has been mentioned all over the forum - sometimes you can find pertinent info by using the “Search This Forum” tool near top right of the USC forum first page). Here is a post from the FAQ for admissions thread about it:

There are still many schalarships to be awarded - including the 1/4 Tuition Dean’s and $12,500 Director’s. Good luck.

Do scholarships typically come with the welcome to trojan family package or separate from this? When you say that there are many more to be awarded including deans and directors, are these things that are sent later? My S also applied for 1/2 century trojan, but I know that is done in April. Just curious about the others?

The Trustee and Presidential letters appear to be included in the admission packages this year. Traditionally, students have found out about Dean’s and the hundreds of smaller scholarships in late February and early March, but there has been talk of one big mailing in late March this year. We will have to wait to see!

@alamemom: So, I applied to the Bacc/MD program, and like I previously mentioned, I received the acceptance packet without any scholarship information. So, just to make sure, this could either mean that I am being considered for the Bacc/MD program, or might get the Dean’s or Director’s scholarship later this year?

^ That is my GUESS, but please be aware that I am only peripherally aware of the Bac/MD program. Last year there was an active thread about it on the multiple degrees forum, but I checked and this year’s thread doesn’t seem to have much on the early acceptances.

In the past three cycles, I have observed several students admitted in the early wave without a Trustee or Presidential scholarship. In the cases I was able to follow up on, those students were later either awarded a Dean’s Scholarship or invited to interview for the Bacc/MD. (Please remember that an invitation to interview for Bacc/MD still means the odds are long - only 30 out of the over 100 interviewed will be offered the program - but it is a HUGE accomplishment!)

I hoping one, the other or BOTH apply to all of you! Best of luck!!!

Does one have to apply for the Bacc/MD program up front or can one who applies as a (pre-med) Biological Sciences major be considered for the program?

Thanks!

SDmon2, would that be useful to check with the office to confirm that?

I also got accepted today into USC with no scholarship.
If it helps, I applied for Interactive Media in SCA, but the letter said they haven’t made their decision on me yet, so right now I’m just undeclared in CLAS.

So does anyone think that not filling out a fafsa for merit aid is going to effect a merit scholarship?

^ From what I know, there’s no effect. Merit scholarships have nothing to do with need.

Are you located in San Diego? I’m trying to get a good timeline on when the non-scholarship packages are coming out.

Yes, you would have had to submit an additional application for Bacc/MD by December 1st.

Kev is correct - no FAFSA is needed for merit scholarships.

Does this mean those of us who got admitted without a scholarship information packet can’t get the Presidential or Trustee scholarship? Why were we notified early if we didn’t apply for the BAMD program either? So confused.

@BigKev - I’m in San Diego. Got the non-scholarship acceptance today.

do you know why we were notified earlier?

Can you ask them for reconsideration?
