Anyone out there is admitted to MIT and not going?

Well the matriculation rate is about 65% at MIT so it is safe to say about 35% admitted will also not be going. Pretty simple statistics and math… Might be a good thing you’re not going.

Oh sorry, it looks like you’re a parent. Is your kid on the waitlist? There is still some hope for acceptance off the waitlist! Don’t give up!

I am choosing Caltech over MIT, so that spot is open! I know of a couple of others that are leaning towards Caltech, but are not yet committed.

I am going to MIT, but one of my friends at my school who got in may go to Duke instead, so that may be an aditional spot depending on what she decides.

admission figures in yield. waitlist is if yield is less than expected.

MIT admitted ~1700 expecting to enroll ~1200.

They waitlisted 1000 people. If the yield is less than expected, they will then turn to the waitlist, review every application, then decide which students to admit. It’s tough, but in recent years MIT has admitted a few from the waitlist (but before that, they used to admit none).

if above numbers are correct, then expect ~100 from waitlist to get in, as yield is ~60-65%.

I found better stats. basically, reduce the number expected to enrolled by 100.

[Class of 2015 admission rate sinks to 9.6 percent - The Tech](http://tech.mit.edu/V131/N14/admissions.html)

yes Jalmo…very interesting. At first glance one could conclude that if MIT takes 100 from the waitlist of a thousand- then there is still a 10% chance. However; the odds are actually better because I’m guessing that many of those 1,000 kids who were waitlisted, have since been accepted at an Ivy, and will commit, or have decided to commit to other schools that they have been accepted at. Who knows/ A waitlister could end up with a 1 in 4 shot of being offered a place. Thoughts…?
