Admitted but wrong major???

Hi everyone. I need help!

I am admitted today. My first choice is Aerospace Engineering and my second is Electrical engineering. However my AIS indicates that I am admitted with General Studies major!!! I don't what happened. OMG I love studying engineering and I don't want to be stuck with a year without doing what I like :(

Does anyone know why? What should I do? Thank you very much.

You were not accepted into the college of Engineering, that is what happened. You were accepted by A&M and went into General Studies…
All is not lost yet.
You can still transfer in to engineering - at New Student Confrence there is an opportunity to change majors. At this time there should be room in engineering as kids that were accepted to Engineering chose another school, so hopefully you can transfer as soon as then. This is a good case for attending as early a NSC as you can.
If you don’t transfer at NSC, then in general studies you can take all the courses geared to engineering students, make your grades then transfer in.

It was probably because you applied late.

You did not get admitted to Engineering, because you probably weren’t qualified. There are still 85 spots left open for Electrical Engineering according to essap. [ENGE Status of Space Available](http://essap.tamu.edu/enge.htm)

No, not that he wasn’t qualified. I bet the spots filled faster than they got to his app. When did you apply OP? I wouldn’t be too concerned about it. I got into economics as a second choice however I’m still going to change to business admin. when I get the chance.

I agree with Xcellerator. There are plenty of openings left in electrical, and if the op had been qualified, he would have been accpeted into it. However, that data is pretty old (1/22) so the spots may have filled up by now but I seriously doubt it.

jsnead - There are still 84 spots left for EE as of 02/14/10. Therefore, he was not qualified.

It might have been the math score of the SAT/ACT that kept the OP down. Engineering looks heavily upon that…

Thanks everyone. I think it’s probably because I applied quite late (just a week before the deadline), my CR score (only 510), if it’s about SAT, and I’m int’l, if it’s about the OOS admitted rate.
@Xcellerator: I think there is no problem with my math score. I got 800 on math. I also sent in my Math II and Physics SAT subject test scores, which are both 800. And my GPA is 9.4/10, which is about 3.8-3.9/4 in the US scale, if you want to know.

I was replied by the OAR that “Your major choices were full at the time you were admitted”. I don’t see why ???
I’ve just sent another inquiry and we will see how it goes.

Okay, they have just replied back. The website [ENGE Status of Space Available](http://essap.tamu.edu/enge.htm) only applies to those who were originally admitted to General Engineering (I guess the term “enge” in the link refers to engineering in “en” and general eng. in “ge”), i.e. not newly admitted freshmen. So everything is clear: I applied so late.
Anyway I’ll go to another school.
