no, cp does not require a mid-year report and my school only sent to the schools that we indicated that needed one.

I was also wondering if it is possible to get moved from Spring admission to Fall. Since there is no waitlist does Maryland grant fall admission to some kids who originally got in for the spring.

If anybody knows anything about how this process works I would really appreciate some information.

dmjt46, I was wondering the same thing. Since not all Fall 2008 admitted students will accept, what happens to the open slots? What is the deadline for the F/2008 admitted students to reply, so that the admissions folks will have a clearer idea of what slots are open?

My son was accepted for Spring 2009 and seems to have lost a little interest in attending now.

1) How many students are expected to be admitted to the Fall 2008 class at UMDCP?
2) Does anyone have any idea the number that is expected to be admitted to Spring 2009?

Do any of the apartments that are closest to the campus offer month-to-month commitments, rather than full year lease?

Is anyone attending the Freshmen Connection orientation on 4/11?

As far as I know - and this is the way it worked last year - If you are a Spring Admit you will not be moved to the Fall class even if the school doesn't make its quota. Maryland will admit 4000 to the Fall Class and I'm not sure how many to the Spring class.
I don't think that any of the apts near campus offer month to month -but there may be a chance to sublet something from a student who may be studying abroad fall semester.

Hope this helps

Fomstartofinish: Not a chance! be grateful you got in for the spring. They will never reverse it.
In fact if you notice, more In staters get in first, and OOs get later.

Be more of a dick please.

fromstartofinish~ oh, well have them send it by all means! our school sends to all schools the student applied to, routinely. by the way, fromstart, my d. got in FIRST, as an OOS. good luck. you have nothing to lose!
and as far as who hears first and then later, we were told that UMDCP offers Priority and RD, but that anyone who seriously wants to get in should apply Priority. they take most kids from this pool, regardless of where they reside. we've known some "straight A, 1400 SATs " denied during RD. spots already filled.

I was admitted for the Spring of 2008, and I attended the Freshman connection program. For the spring, I applied and was accepted to Civicus program (a living and learning program based on leadership, civic engagement, etc.)
Spring admission is NOT THE END OF THE WORLD
you can go to community college for a semester (and take classes for UMCP credit, but they will be easier). Or, you can look into Freshman connection.
I commuted for a semester and saved $$. But if you plan on doing Freshman connection, go sign a lease for off campus housing NOW!!!!!!!
The University is decreasing the size of the Freshman class, and increasing Spring admission. This year, I believe there were around 900 new Spring Students, next year there will likely be more.
Feel free to contact me with questions.

PS: UMCP is a great school, don't let Spring admission ruin that for you

The dilemma we have is off -campus housing. My son is pondering whether to pursue Spring 2009, while he awaits decisions from a few other schools. He attended Young Scholars this summer, which he loved and prompted him to apply for undergrad. Prior to this experience, he wasnt even interested in UMDCP. I would have no problem with him coming in the Spring and participating in Freshmen Connection, but I would not want him living off campus for an entire year just yet. I learned from a previous thread that none of the housing options nearby offer month-to-month and therefore he would need to commit to a full year lease (not a preference), or hopefully find a sublet for the Sept-Dec. period.

We are OOS, so commuting isnt a possibility and he so desperately wants to get away and begin his college experience that I dont think a community college would hold his interest. Fortunately he has other options, but I do know that UMDCP was in his top 2.

Any advice, suggestions or other info shared here is GREATLY appreciated.

P.S. He is my first to go off to college so much of this is all new to me/us!

Thanks

CollegeMom2008 - I know a few kids who accepted spring admission last year. They all lived in the Tower apts (4 kids to an apt), with kids they did not know before they got there, and all took a full load of classes. But their classes had to start at 2PM or later. Everyone one of them decided not to move on campus for spring semester. The shuttle bus goes to the Tower and it is right off campus anyway. I also know several freshman who are moving into the Tower for soph year. They want A/C and private bedrooms.

I know it is a difficult decision to make and I wish your son the best.

scarf: i iam honest, not trying to sugarcoat his/her statement, but if he wants to go to UMD, take it as you want it, the truth is painful sometimes. Otherwise, I guess there are other school choices for a good student like fromstartofinish. I'm outta here
