Admitted freshman with too many credits?

Hey guys,
I'm a freshman admit this year and was looking through the requirements to declare for Psychology when I happened to notice these two bullet points:

Second semester sophomore standing

Freshmen admitted Fall 04 and transfer students admitted Fall 06 will not be allowed to declare Psychology if they have completed more than a total of eighty units including the current semester.

I've taken 15 UC transferrable college courses at the local community college as well as 7 AP classes during high school. Based on their chart for academic standing, I will probably have junior status- even close to senior. I'm really worried that I won't be able to declare as Psych major because of this. Feeling very foolish now for having taken so many psychology courses offered at the college- I thought taking them for fun wouldn't do any harm.

Will my situation be a problem?
Is there any way to avoid this? (Perhaps choosing to transfer only some courses?)

yea...well, the university as a whole lets you take 120 units...if you have 15 classes and AP's, it could be tough getting through the requirements to fulfill a major before you're kicked out.

The website says they'll only include those towards the 120 if I want them to. I guess I'll try calling in tomorrow.

don't worry, you should be fine. 7 AP classes, and 15 transferable units does not put you at 80 units, it probably puts you at about 30 something given the the AP classes ussually count as about three units each, having over 80 units would mean you had second semester junior status

also, the units you bring into cal from AP's don't count against your unit cap (which is like 160) so you can use them to graduate eary/not take 30 units a year, making life easier.

You are also guaranteed 4 years at Berkeley when entering as a freshman, so you can have an insane amount of units and they can't kick you out.

i know freshman who come in with senior standing...don't worry about it

I am assuming you meant 15 units and not 15 courses? Or did you really waste your time taking 15 courses?

I took about 15 courses in community college and 7 APs. From people I talked to, it's fine because the 120 unit cap only applies after you've already done 4 years at Berkeley. You can get as many units as you want at Berkeley as long as it's in under 4 years. If you want to continue taking courses into your fifth year without graduating only then do you have to be under 120 units.

i was told the same thing, although, my cc courses are only transferable to CSU :( oh well, i'm still smoking everyone in business admin, LOL jk

watch out!!!!!! here i come cal!!!!!!!!!!!
