Admitted into N.U. in Program 2012

Does anyone know about this program? Also, any of you guys our there admitted into this n.u. in program thing? My decision letter says I would be studying abroad for first semester and coming back as a spring admit. Seems cool, but not ideal for me. Northeastern is my dream school but I always knew it would be a little bit out of reach for me financially. Now that I got into this program which seems even more expensive b/c of no financial aid, I think I may have to pass up on NU :( I have to see what my parents say.

admitted here too. Northeastern is also my dream school, so in all honesty i’m not quite certain of how to react to this acceptance- it was a reach for me academically (gpa), and though i’m thrilled that i was accepted, i’m not sure that i’ll be able to afford this either. :/

yeah i got accepted to the NUin program as well and its an estimated 80K for tuition for the first year. Its definitely expensive. I don’t know how to react either because of financial impact.

i got a question though, if we can’t afford this program, we have to decline the acceptance?? or can we just wait till the spring to start northeastern?

I researched that it’s all or nothing. So if you don’t do participate in the program, you can’t get into northeastern. I know, it sucks. I read a thread from a year ago that someone got excused from the program because of an illness. But I think that’s like a rare occasion.
80k?! That makes me want to cry

yeah dude… an i don’t get any financial aid because I didn’t send in the CCS profile.

I got into the program. 3.47 GPA UW. 28 ACT strong EC’s recs, and essay. Asian. From NY
Northeastern isn’t one of my top choices and the NU.in program sounds a little weird. Il consider it though!

Well… I got into this program also, which is very unexpected result…
Honestly, I think this offer is backhanded way of saying I am on the verge of being admitted… And, I am a boon, not an asset to NEU, making me feel disgusting.
Frankly speaking, I have never studied in my high school (not more than an hour a day) and English is not even my preliminary language. -Albeit I got 2070 for SAT, AND ABOUT 3.23 GPA (I am not sure its weighed or not weighed, but my grades are barely passing grades, although my school is very rigorous)
I spent more than 3 hours a day playing piano and wandering around my highschool campus.

Let me ask an important question, though.
Is it fully guaranteed for me attending NEU after going oversea for 3 months? I am kinda baffled with the vague statement from NEU saying you will have chance to get into NEU after this freaking adventure…
Honestly, if I take SAT again, I can get over +2200.
I got 750 for SAT ll math and 660 for World History (I didn’t even give a single glimpse on it, though)
Should I forgo this opportunity and attend other university and transfer or I should just contribute my time staying in the abroad, satisfying NEU’s fiscal deficit?
Please advice me. This is so weird invitation.
(I got into NEU before as a regular student but I forgot to deposit money, which turn into my forced 1 year break . BTW)

Whoa what the f? It’s not guarenteed we get into NEU after the abroad program? Someone clarify please.

It’s Definatly guarenteed

It is 100% guaranteed that you are in at Northeastern after you go abroad.

Ah okay. Thanks guys. Got a little scared because of the replies above.

It’s guaranteed. My son was accepted that way last year. Also got a second semester acceptance to UMD.

Does anyone know how many people on average are admitted into NUin and how many people actually decide to go?

@whatisthat I agree about not being an asset to nu but the school could have just rejected us so maybe being admitted into the program is saying something. But I am not sure if this is an accomplishment.
However, I can’t exactly complain considering I thought for sure I would be rejected bc of my low stats

@familyguy… are you absolutely sure it’s 80k a year? I would think that they would cut the Northeastern tuition in half (around 25k) since we wouldn’t be in Boston first semester, and the added ~30,000 would be for the first fall semester abroad. That would total to around 55kish right? I would be surprised if they really made you pay 80k for the whole year… if 400 have enrolled in the past willing to do that, I’d be shocked. But I may be wrong - I certainly hope I’m not!

@aznlau I have the same question… hoew many people are admitted into NUin and how many people are they expecting to enroll?

This seems like a really unique opportunity that I’m trying to picture. It’s scary, not necessarily ideal, however I don’t want to rule it out. I’ve always wanted to go to Ireland.

4.21 GPA

4.5 Senior 1st quarter
4.4 senior 2nd quarter

I personally want to know why i wasn’t accepted into fall admissions

Does anyone know of any way to get in contact with people who have done this program before? I feel like the best way to fully understand the program and make a decision about whether it’s right for me will be by learning about what other kids have gotten out of it in years past…

If cost is an issue, then why not take courses somewhere else for a year and then transfer? I don’t think you have to forget about NU just because you don’t want to be are part of this program. My guess is that this program is for borderline candidates who they want to join NU, but don’t want them dragging down their stats. Just a guess. Anyway, studying elsewhere and then transferring will have the same effect and it will be a lot cheaper.

Of course, if money is not an issue, it sounds like a great program.

@mikm567 I think there is an orientation thing coming up for people who got into the program. So I bet there will be past students you can talk to

I was also accepted to this, and northeastern is also my top school… not sure how I feel about being shipped off to another country on July 26th though… but yeah I think that it’s for the boarderline candidates, and they ship you off because they over accept students but they don’t have enough room on campus for them. I asked about this program when I had an interview at northeastern and that’s generally what I got out of it.

i also got into neu and its a top choice, but im still waiting for other colleges. Though I’ll probably still choose nu. Question is can I make myNeu account and still not enroll until I hear from the other colleges or did i need to wait to make an account when i know i will be going to nu.
