Admitted! It feels unreal.

I got a call 2 days ago from a Harvard admissions counselor. I missed her call twice so she left message with her cell and home phone number. I called her later in the evening and she starts off by saying, "I have some very exciting news for you." At that moment, if felt like my mind shut off. She went on to say that she is calling to inform me that I have been admitted and should be expecting something in the mail in the coming weeks. She was extremely kind and told me I could give her a call whenever I wanted if I had any questions.

Anyway, I am beyond happy, overwhelmed actually. In all honesty, I dont know why I was admitted (even before the decision date). I have a 32 ACT and between 710-770 on subject SAT tests. I havent won siemens or intel. All I have done is started a club I was passionate about, did a summer internship, and worked for 2 years. I spent more than 6 months on my essays and wrote it from the heart, literally put everything I had into it. I don't even feel academically prepared, but I know if I work hard I can do it. To conclude, this has been the greatest blessing ever. I am beyond overwhelmed and even starting to question if what I heard from the admissions counselor was indeed that I have been admitted.

I am sure that I am not the only one who got a call, so if you got one, feel free to post it so we can embark on this journey of choosing harvard together. I wish all of you best of luck in whatever decision you get come april. You have to keep the mindset that whereever you go, the ultimate factor will be "you" and your hardwork and diligence. A college can pave a path for you, but there are multiple paths to a destination.

Congratulations!!! That’s an amazing achievement, and one you should be very happy about  And you’re not alone - apparently lots of people who get “likely” letters and/or phone calls don’t expect them. But Harvard wants to cater to those who they know might not accept them, and likelies are a good way to do that. It means that you’re definitely wanted there and you belong there - congrats  :)

Wow! Congratulations!

What was your GPA/rank? Did you have any hooks?

ACT: 32
SAT: 770,710,740
AP: 5’s-Chem, Gov, Econ 4-USH

EC’s: involved with volunteering, and two clubs in which I am officer. Did a little bit of research over summer. Worked for two years.

Asian American

To be honest, I am extremely, extremely surprised. And, I would not be surprised if I got rejected from the other ivy leagues. I think luck, hardwork, and sincereity can go a long way. Anyone else get a similar call?

Do you have any other hooks? Like first generation, maybe?

BTW, congrats. How exciting!

What kind of work did you do? There’s a difference between working at McDonald’s and working with a professor on some amazing research.

mrscollege- I come form a low-socioeconomic background. I dont know if that helped, but it may have led them to put less of an emphasis on ACT scores since they are directly correlated with income level.

to remain anonymous, I am not going to specifically say what work I did. But, I worked at a hospital, nothing glamorous, but it was professional adult work.

youwillsee1, congrats. seriously. anyone who comes from tough times and achieves the kinds of scores and probably everything else you’ve done…good for you. that’s awesome that you got a personal call. your application must be quite special. yay!

Prepare to have 500 people call you a ■■■■■.

But from me, congratulations! Must be very exciting. :)

Na…he’s not a ■■■■■. Thx 4 ur story tho…it’s nice 2 hear good news on cc from time to time!

congratulations!!
you should feel very proud that they admitted you for being you and not just for some arbitrary title (or something like that)

Hey Congrats!!!

Congrats youwillsee1!

HWow! Congratulations! WOW! I’m so happy for you, they must truly believe that you belong at Harvard. And who ever said miracles don’t happen. Have a joyful foiur yearns at Harvard u.

^ Haha, I like all the random underlines ;)

^^^^^
Dan Brown is stupid and he’s very predictable.

“Random” underlines? And you’re applying to Harvard? Just sayin’.

Those aren’t random.

Congratulations. This just shows that no one needs to cure cancer to get in, just a solid application and hope for the best.

underlines = hope I can join u – clever

Congrats to op.

thank you all. I think Harvard wants people with a good work ethic, which is where i believe i excel. You dont have to be a genius, but a simply hardworking intelligent (socially, emotionally, and academically) to make a difference in society. I have big plans for my future and I think they saw that.Anyway, I am still surprised and somedays I think they are gonna call and say it was a mistake (haha).
