I ran into an acquaintance last night who is a Penn grad. I knew his son had applied to Penn but had gotten turned down (along with H and Y), and was planning to attend our state flagship. So I was surprised when he said that at the very last minute, his son got off the waitlist and was going to Penn and that he had just moved him in. (For which I congratulated him heartily of course! And said "Go Nittany Lions!" Just kidding -- I heart Penn)

Anyway, I was curious - how many were on the waitlist this year at Penn and how many were accepted? Was there any kind of boomerang effect from other schools admitting off waitlists that reverberated throughout?

Apologies if this has already been discussed; I'm not a visitor to the Penn forums.
