Who's attending?
Have you firmly decided to attend, and if not, what other schools are you still considering?

I attended the accepted students day with my daughter. It was our second visit to RPI. We were impressed with the academic aspect but not so much with the social life at school. We live three hours away so she will be spending most of the year there. She is also considering Stevens Institute of Technology and Syracuse University.

My husband and I attended with our son. He was also considering The University of Rochester and Lehigh. The academic presentation and the facilities really bowled him over at the admitted students day. He will be attending in the fall.

My daughter and I visited. She is interested in CS. She is still undecided between RPI, Northeastern and Stevens. I agree that their facilities are amazing.
I also liked how personal their approach was to admitted students day.
We stopped by the robotics lab and talked to a professor, and went to CS/IT Web and talked to students one to one there.
She felt at home at RPI, but may prefer the more urban campuses that Stevens and Northeastern offer.

I told her that if she was considering engineering RPI should win hands down, because of their labs. However, for computer science, I’m not sure that it matters that Watson is at RPI.

Kitt122, we were at the accepted students day too. My daughter has the same concern as yours. She loved the campus and feels the academics are great but she is not sure she will fit in. She is a true girly, girl that likes her makeup, doing her hair and shopping. There are over 5,000 students though, I’m sure she can find a small group of friends with similar girly interests. Stevens social scene will be the same as RPI except there are less kids and hoboken is great but not much to do if your under 21.

@Kittykat71 my son read your post and wants me to assure you that he appreciates “girly-girls”! :))

Pepper17, my S is trying to decide between U or Rochester and RPI. What made you choose RPI? We’re Elect Engn Robotics aerospace major…

@conpel2b, sorry for the late response. I think i was on college confidential “overload” there for a while. He picked RPI simply because he felt it had a stronger engineering program overall. The social aspects that I cared about were of no concern to him. He said, “I only need 5 friends mom. I’m sure I can find 5 people like me”. And he’s probably correct!
