Just got back from the Open House. Highlights for me were the reception with Valerie Jarrett and David Axelrod, the lecture by Professor Steve Levitt, and just wandering around in the gothic wonderland. The campus was much more beautiful than I imagined. Weather on Thursday was absolutely gorgeous – hundreds of people sitting out on the lawn in the main quad. Temperatures were above 70 degrees F for a short time. Then suddenly on Thursday evening the temperature dropped by about 30 degrees. Friday was a cold mess, and I’m glad that I listened to @HydeSnark and brought a thick winter jacket with me.
Levitt also confirmed the starting of the new business ‘track’ within the Econ department. He said that we (class of 2022) would be the first that could major in it. Nondorf was bubbling around, and had a perpetual smile on his face. Security presence was notable. Each morning, and late into the evening UCPD were visible on all of the major intersections into the campus. There was some chatter about the shooting, but most of the students that I talked to didn’t seem to think it was the UCPD’s fault. Not too many prospective students seemed worried about the incident.
I plunked down my deposit and can’t wait to start in the fall. Looking forward to O-week!
