Did anyone else notice that today under "Financial Aid" that the "awards" tab disappeared? This has been present ever since D got her FA award on March 21st. I have been checking it to make sure the Unsub Stafford Loan progress is on track. Now I don't see that tab at all, which also includes her merit award that she was given upon acceptance. Anyone see something similar?

bump
anyone else see a change in the financial aid tab

All tabs are still there on my son's finaid page.

All of them are still there on my son's page too! Wish the numbers had changed but alas they are still the same....

Well the tab disappeared two days ago and now it's back, but sadly the numbers didn't change. I was encouraged there for awhile..... :-(

Me too, RatedPG. Oh well! Has your dtr decided to go to NU? My son has already sent in his deposits and now is just trying to figure out which orientation to go to. It never hurts to stop dreaming that more $$ will find its way into our pool!! We're pursuing outside scholarships now, hoping for some luck there!

colllegemom, d is still trying to decide between BC and NEU. We had really hoped for more merit aid from NEU, d is in the top 4% of her class (23 of 530), but I guess her SAT scores just didn't measure up for NEU this year.

Although BC would be full price for us, it is probably a better fit for her ...... I really don't understand the merit aid this year at NEU.

I agree with you it seems so random. I also keep looking at the financial aid tab to see if they add more $$, but of course nothing. My son will be attending, Bouve, the 6 year pharmacy program. We paid the deposit and signed up for orientation the beginning of July.

Ratedpg, did I read in a previous post you daughter is considering speech pathology? My daughter will be a senior at Penn State for speech pathology. She will be applying in the fall for graduate schools. A friend of ours who is a speech pathologist, said that NEU has an excellent program. So my daughter will apply to NEU among others for the graduate program.

I keep checking my son's page too in the hope that they will relook at the rankings after all the students have decided- maybe after May 1 we can hope and pray for alittle more $$? I mean what do they do with the $$ they have awarded students in merit aid when they don't attend? Just alittle bit more would help tremendously! We spoke with Finaid and were basically told that the offer is final and they don't ever give out any more merit or scholarships after the initial acceptance is made. Yet I know I have read on other threads that it has happened in the past. I just think this year was so random with acceptances, waitlists etc...I'm just glad he got accepted as NEU was always his #1 choice!

lowermorelandmom, good luck to your d in her graduate school search. My d was accepted into CAS as a psychology major with the intention of minoring in elementary education. But after we wento to the admitted students day last week, she had a change of heart and applied for transfer to the Speech Pathology. So now she thinks Bouve will be her choice. We went there today and learned a lot more about the program.... everyone in it seems to love it. They also have an accelerated 5 yr Masters that you can apply for in the third year but it is very selective. Glad to hear the program is well regarded. Although it has been around awhile, it is very small (only 20 kids average per grade). How big is the program at Penn State? And do you have a good feel for job opportunities in this field in the next several years?

collgemom, as far as additional merit aid, last year my d got the dean's scholarship upon early acceptance in Dec. Then when the financial aid awards were given in March she received another merit award in engineering. But both were before the May 1st decision date. We were told that money doesn't "free up" from students that decide not to attend. Also, my d's current roommate received the dean's scholarship initially, sent in her deposit then after May 1st was told she had received a full tuition scholarship. So it can happen.

Let's not give up hope. We didn't call but my daughter wrote a letter to NEU trying to highlight some of her academic accomplishments that she felt may have been overlooked initially, probably won't help but we figured it couldn't hurt.

Good luck everyone.

RatedPG- my son got an Excellence Merit scholarship -$8K a year with his early action acceptance. Then when Financial aid awards came out he was notified that he was eligible for a Stafford Loan (which will have to be repaid of course). So we're definitely hoping for more; anything would help. I just keep praying that alittle more will come our way!
