anyone know anything about scholarship amounts for out of state? or when they’re announced?
I got “the call” today. A student representative called me and asked me how my college apps are going, if I’ve heard back from any schools, do I have an idea of which schools are my favorites, etc. I told her MN was at the top of my list, and then she asked me what I liked about the school. That was really all she asked that I can remember and then she let me ask several questions. I asked about out of state scholarships and she mentioned that when they say top 5/10% of your class, they mean for the accepted college’s class! So top 10% of applicants in CBS or CSE. It’s strange because their website says “top 10% of graduating class.” Idk, but if it’s what she said then that’d explain why they can award them inconsistently with some high stat CSE student not getting a scholarship but a lower stat CLA getting one :-/
Same here. App was complete Sep 20. 30 ACT 3.46 unweighted GPA, but minimal extracurriculars.
@drewdane have you been accepted?
@vvfor3 No, I was replying to s16s18s21s25’s post of the 30th.
I think they are holding off from deciding on my son for now because of his GPA and bad class rank. I still check pretty much every day though. Eventually they will have to issue a decision.
@s16s18s21s25 sounds like we are in the same boat (relatively low GPA and rank). Like you, I’m checking almost every day…but in reality, not expecting a decision one way or another until it get’s closer to the end of February (even though the app was submitted in August).
Hi there!
Accepted into CFANS
Major: Environmental Science
Illinois Resident
GPA: W 4.7 UW 3.79
ACT: 33
Congrats to everyone accepted!
My app was completed Oct 13th and heard back November 20th.
Also accepted into the Honors University Program
When does U of M say when a student is accepted into the honors college? I got accepted, but it didn’t even mention the honors college or any scholarships. Do these decisions come later, or does lacking them in the acceptance letter mean that I did not win any scholarships or was not admitted to the honors college?
@jackisawesome At first, there wasn’t any mention of the honors college when I was accepted both online and with the packet I received. When I randomly went on the Application Tracker on December 1st, it said on the bottom that I was also accepted into the Honors College!
@jackisawesome Honors Program acceptances can be immediate for some and delayed for others. My son’s experience was UMN acceptance in October and Honors acceptance in March. I’m not sure how scholarships are handled, but I suspect they’re offered between Oct - Apr as well.
@ktwf0326 Congrats, and thanks for posting, the info is helpful. D applied CFANS, application completed Nov 2. 3.45 unweighted GPA, 30 ACT. I guess we’ll just see…
@drewdane my D1 got into CLA last year with about a 3.45 uw GPA. Admitted in October. Her ACT is higher - 33 - but seriously your D’s ACT should get her in to CFANS - she’s above the 75th percentile there. In fact, based on their composite ACT score distribution she is probably among the top 20% of students admitted - maybe even higher. I think coursework matters - D1 was taking a bunch of AP’s at the time including B/C calculus - but assuming your D is taking a rigorous load and has a good trend on her GPA the actual number may not be a significant factor.
Good luck to her!
@TotallyTrudy Sorry, I’m new to this chat/thread thing. I’m curious what “the call” is. Is this a post-acceptance, “are you going to actually enroll”? call or just part of the application review/interview process? My daughter was recently accepted into the CLA and Honors College (OOS).
Applied 10/13 (although transcripts didn’t arrive until 11/20ish), accepted late Nov/early Dec (still no packet or call).
Just a quick question (not sure this is the best place, but I didn’t want to clutter the main page): what do you think my chances for the honors college are? I applied to the CLA.
GPA: 3.7 W, 3.5 UW
SAT: 2070 (720 580 770) and 2030 (710 640 680)
SAT II: 710 Lit, 760 USH
CR: School doesn’t rank.
Course Rigor: 5 APs (2 already, 5s on APUSH & AP Lang), this year AP US Gov, AP Comp Gov, & AP Lit
Most everything else (math & science) were honors credits, with various honors electives & college prep spanish for three years up to level 4.
Thanks!
My application has been complete since Nov 26th (Golden gopher application). Around when do you think I’ll receive a decision?
@ThirdDegree Some of us have been called by students working for admissions. Basically they’re feeling you out by asking stuff like “how many colleges have you applied to, how many have you gotten into, do you have a favorite?” I think it might be a way for them to get an idea of whether or not borderline students are worth pursuing for scholarships. Not positive though…
Lol so I applied on July 28, 2015… Still nothing on my APP Tracker,
I had a 28 ACT Score and applied to Carlson Out Of State, should I be expecting bad news?
