Can someone tell me what happens on this day? We already did a "campus visit/tour" day back in October.. is this the same thing? I am wondering if we should make the trip from Buffalo to do this. I don't want to miss anything important, but don't want to make the drive if it's just a tour of what we had prior.

You’ll get to meet with professors and staff. Campus and residential facility tours will also be given.

I’ll be there. Isn’t that enough reason to go?

It’s actually a lot of fun. It can be a little overwhelming, because there’s a lot going on, but it does give students and families a chance to really connect with other admitted students and get a sense of who they’ll be living and studying with in the fall. It’s NOT in any way mandatory, however; we get calls from folks thinking it’s an Orientation of some kind. It is not. Think of it as an Open House, just only for a select group; admitted freshmen.

However, Keleso and I will be there. Isn’t that enough reason to go? :)

Son applied based on the visit we made back in November on Election Day.

If he’s accepted (applied 11/22/10, so far, no word; here’s where I’d make a sad face if only I knew how!), he’d love to take a closer look. Taking the “Rex Ryan Approach”, I am putting it on our calendar

Admitted student day program starts at 10am on 4/9/11 and runs until 2. Can anyone advise if it is a structured program/schedule? Is it for the student only or parents too? Any details would be appreciated.

Good question. The day will start at 10:00 with a welcome in our arena; that will feature student performances (marching band, dance, etc.) as well as words from our Provost and Enrollment Management folks.

Once that lets out, the day is pretty loose, although there will be a bunch of workshops, tours, and the like scheduled for everyone to check out; the day is open to all admitted freshmen and their families. (Actually, we usually get a handful of transfers that show up too, but it’s technically “designed” for freshmen.) The full schedule will come in a confirmation e-mail after you register for the program. (And after we figure it out.) :)

Thank you so much Chris…that helps greatly. We will be there! We still haven’t received the official letter yet (just solar changes)… so my question… do you know how long it takes the letter to follow the solar changes? Do you need the admissions letter in hand in order to sign up or would they have her name on a roster somewhere to know she is eligible?

No, once the system says you’re in, you’re in. Congrats!

Do you think you could elaborate on what this special visit to the Brookhaven Lab. is besides talking about possible undergrad. research opportunities?

yeah I’m with biganthony, I was wondering about that.

That’s it, largely. It’s a chance to meet and network with some of our top students and faculty and see the kinds of things they’re doing. We did it for the first time last year, and it’s an incredible trip.
