Kid got in to UCLA for next fall. Really wants to go to admitted students day but has a huge concert that night in Northern California where we live. Unlikely to get out of it due to position in orchestra.
Still looking at some other schools but they notify mid april.
How much of a deal is the admitted students day and its activities?
thanks

Admitted students day is huge. You really get a feel for the campus and the campus community. The admitted student gets a much better feel for what it would be like to go there and can make a much better decision. You can always go to another concert.

It’s a lot like an advertisement event for you and your family. Do you really want that? I personally didn’t go, and I’m pretty happy with UCLA (relatively, fluctuates now and then :P), but perhaps others on this forum really thought it made an impact on which school they eventually chose. If you’ve never been to UCLA, you probably should visit before the decision date-- it can be on any regular day through campus tours, if you’d like. I think you’d get a better feel for an ordinary day on campus.

I’d go to the concert… but that’s just me.

We went to Admitted Students Day last year. It was very fun. You go on a tour for admitted students (vs a tour for prospective students), there are presentations by the dean (s), various professors, students and parents. There were various options including housing, financial aid, and I can’t remember what else. I do remember getting to see a dorm room. We ate lunch in the dining hall. My son and I had a good time. He had already decided he wanted to go to UCLA, but it did give us a good feeling about his decision. His high school friend signed up too late so just went on a campus tour and they ate lunch on campus and had a good time as well.

he has actually been working on the music or this concert all year.
Last summer was able to attend a course in her major at the school so hopefully has a feel for the school.

I recommend “friending” UCLA Parents and UCLA Housing on Facebook. That was one thing I learned when my son and I went to Admitted Students Day and they always have great info, like when housing applications are due etc…
