Admitted Students...Have you made your decision yet?

Just curious to know if people, especially those out of state, accepted on Friday have decided whether or not they are 100% attending UF, or whether they are waiting on other options. We are out of state, so I’m curious what some of the other out of staters accepted are thinking.

We are waiting, will need some merit aid to be able to swing it OOS.

D was accepted, but only applied to humor her Mom and Dad, who are both Gators. We are OOS and concerned about the lack of kids there from OOS–when both my husband and I went there, we can’t remember ever meeting more than one or two kids who were NOT from FL. She’ll be attending another SEC school with a much higher (40%) OOS student body.

DD was accepted oos but we are waiting to visit in March & if she gets any merit.

My son was accepted oos (Maryland). About 95% sure UF but waiting to hear from UGA where he was deferred. I still think he’ll choose UF even if accepted to Georgia. Not sure what he’s waiting for. @RobK2018 where are you from? Wondering how hard it is to get one of the handful of Merit scholarships for OOS.

My son was accepted OOS NY we are going to see OSU 2/23 and UF/FSU 3/1. He is probably not going to FSU since his brother goes there- we want him to have his own experience. I would say UF 95%- its close to his brother, easier for us (selfishly lol) and a great academic school! #housedivided
and just to throw in the mix I have a daughter in 11th- I get to do this all over again next year!!! ugh lol

When does one find out about Merit $ and do you need to apply or is it like FSU and UCF, just send you a letter with the number? What are the stats for merit money from UF, vary for OOS or IS? Aside from 2K mentioned for perfect score honors kids, didn’t think UF gave out any merit $.

Feels like a long wait to see if merit $ will be received. Hoping to compare to other offers my son received. But it is the. Bright Futures outcome that will have the greatest impact.

@OldLady21 You don’t apply for Merit money. It’s awarded based on your application. I read it comes out late February and very little (like 100) go to OOS kids.

Daughter was accepted (OOS - Annapolis, MD - IB) … not expecting merit money, but would really help the decision along. Pitt was her first choice, but now she is seriously thinking UF … but she didn’t realize she was supposed to do the housing thing when she applied. If she doesn’t get on-campus freshman year, I may push for Pitt.

OOS is really expensive without aid. Period. Very few schools are worth a $200000 price tag IMO. (actually I can’t think of one). I am waiting to see. Would love to go (we are a huge Gator family) and any money would jet it to the top, but too may other schools have offered generous packages.

@Anxiousmom12 We are from up North. I think the OOS scholarships are extremely limited. UF is still relatively affordable out of state compared to some other schools. We are leaning UF as well. What about UF appealed to your son the most?

@NYIslekid Great options. We were high on OSU as well, but in my opinion, UF is a much stronger option. We are trying to schedule a visit down to UF for an admitted students day to see the school and make sure we like it. Good to see some OOS students interested in UF.

@MomInAnnapolis Two great options as well. We were almost set on South Carolina after some merit money, but I think UF is probably the top choice now. It’s a great school and getting even better. It seems like more OOS kids applied to UF this year. Good to know my S wasn’t the only one!

@RobK2018 We are OOS(Alabama) and had also pretty much decided on South Carolina for my daughter as well as they have offered the most merit money so far and their Honors College really impressed my D. She applied to UF last minute even though we figured she wouldn’t get any merit aid at all. If she can get a little merit money then UF will become a real possibility for her. We are planning on going down to visit next month.

Hi everyone! Im a first year gator from out of state and I love it! if you have any questions about being out of state please ask me! yes, most people are from florida, but everyone wants to talk to you when they hear youre from somewhere else. Also, I have a few close friends who are oos, we do exist lol. I also considered Bama as one of my top choices when looking at schools, but even tho they have more out of state people, it is significantly harder to get to an airport there. Overall, dont let the small amt of oos students deter you from making one of the best decisions of your life. Its great to be a florida gator!

@NYIslekid I was so stuck between osu and uf and even though osu fit more of what I was looking for, I knew UF was the right choice and am so happy to be here. It has felt like home from the start and I went to visit friends at osu and everyone was a lot less inviting and people did not seem as focused on school. Obviously I am making huge generalizations for 2 extremely large schools but since I was in a similar situation, I know how it feels.

@20177588 how do you get to and from the campus when you travel by plane? Also, my daughter will not be joining a sorority. Is the campus very Greek oriented?

My daughter will be attending UF in the fall! She is in-state. We didn’t do housing app early either. Hoping for the best!

@tif1972 I, for the most part, fly into Gainesville. Although it can be a little pricey, it is super convenient and the flight is super easy. Also, I am not in greek life and have still had an amazing experience. If your daughter is starting in the fall, then it will definitely be difficult at first to make friends but as long as she is out going it will be fine. I started in summer and it was the best decision i ever made. 90% of my friends this semester are from summer b and even though a lot of them went greek i still hang out with them every day. Greek life is defintiely relevant on campus and it may seem cliquey, especially at the beginning when rush happens, but it really isnt that big of a deal and its no reason to stay away from uf. I highly reccomend getting involved with something more than just a club that meets once a week. Find something that youre passionate about that you can genuienly get involved with and that is where youll start to make friends. Also, live in a dorm where people are open to meeting people. Although some of my friends are from my floor, i live in a suite and people arent super social or stick to their own groups.
