Hey everyone, I’ve been accepted to OSU and am going to attend the admitted students tour this upcoming Friday. On this day, the calendar states that it does have an “academic session available.” It gives me an hour time frame in my itinerary in which I guess I would participate in this session. What exactly do you do during this session? Are you also given a tour aside from just the session? Are my parents allowed to be in the session with me? I did mark them as additional party members in the registration. Thanks so much!
I’ll be there Saturday, have fun!
ANNNAAAD and KIDFROMCHICAGO: Can you provide feedback on what transpired in the regular session vs. academic one? What did you find especially helpful? Did you have time to eat between sessions and where’s a good place to go?
@kooth12, I went on a admitted students tour, most of the 30 plus admitted students were from OOS. When I booked the option for a “academic session” wasn’t available, probably since it’s Saturday. However, It was pretty similar to any other college tour, first they solicit you with a power point presentation then you go on the campus tour, just a little over an hour. The session started at 10am and ended at around 1pm then your on your own. As far as food options High St. was loaded with every food option you could ever wish for. Hope this helps, you truly have to see for yourself. Just a little side note, the high temp was 9 degrees and the windchill was below zero. So dress warm.
@kidfromchicago: Thanks. We are from NJ and it’s between Ohio State and Va tech. My son has only seen Tech when it was green and sunny or in the fall. (We’re assuming he will get into Tech - 3rd generation, his brother goes there, pretty good stats.) Therefore, my husband didn’t want his opinion to be skewed based on the weather. We are scheduled to attend at the beginning of April.
Based on your exeperience, do you think you will attend? Did you connect with the experience? Were the students friendly? Thanks.
@kooth12, As far as commitment, I’m still waiting on my financial package to compare out of pocket costs with several other schools. The campus is awesome, we drove around town Friday to get a feel of the area, and Ohio State is its own little town even though it’s on the northern fringe of a trendy Art district called Short North, Short North is basically High St. heading south towards the arena district / downtown, which is a five minute bus ride to watch a Columbus BlueJackets (Hockey) game. It has every type of food option you could desire, within walking distance. The atmosphere was definitely safe, trendy, and upscale, I loved it. On another note, the tour on Saturday was good as well, Ohio State has definitely spent a lot of money on renovations, updated library, recreation center, dorms, classrooms, and the new north campus dorms that are under construction, everything we seen was clean, modern and updated. The campus felt big when we drove around, but as we cut through the different buildings on the walking tour, we ended up on the west end of campus by the recreation center and Ohio Stadium before we knew it. It’s a big campus, but could seem small real quick. School spirit was definitely visible and everyone was friendly and willing to answer any questions. Definitely a top choice for me if the money is right.
@kidfromchicago Thanks for the info! My S has been accepted but hasn’t visited yet. Appreciate all of the great info. Choosing between OSU, NC State and hopefully V Tech (waiting to hear).
@kidfromchicago --thanks so much for the information. It is very useful.
@SALSRL - My son applied to the exact same schools–OSU, NC State and Va Tech. 2 for 2 with one to go.
Your screen name looks familiar.from the Va Tech site from last year. We are out of state at all three-- OSU is our most economical option due to the scholarships. Hoping he likes it.
@kooth12 We are out of state for all three as well. Three very different campuses. Just have to see OSU as soon as we can fit it in the schedule. It is the most economical for us too.
@kidfromchicago gets better every day you’re on campus
Everyone I have talked to who went on an admitted student tour at Ohio State came back impressed. Some were people who went there expecting not to like it. Not all ended up going there though. Good luck and have fun.
