Admitted Students Weekend

Did anyone attend February Admitted Students Weekend? What did you think?

Yes, we did with my D. It was very informative and nice to get another tour of the campus. After visiting so many, it gets hard to distinguish one from another in my memory! We were able to meet in small groups with professors and deans of the various majors/schools. Small group sessions were also available for other aspects of Fairfield U. life. Students from the various sports/clubs etc. were there to discuss their group. Definitely worth the time spent, especially if you are seriously considering Fairfield.

We also attended with my son. I agree that it was definitely worthwhile. We went to presentations for Arts and Sciences and then one with one of the Communications professors. They also had a fair with all the student clubs. Although we had previously gone on a tour we again took one and was able to ask the tour guide to take us to the specific places we wanted to see again. They also had a bus tour which we did not get to take that brought you around campus and into the main area of town. Students were very helpful. My son really came away with a very favorable opinion of the school and it is one of several schools he is considering.

How does Fairfield compare/differ with other schools such as Stonehill, Assumption, etc as far as the types of students that go there, selectivity of acceptance, overall feel of the campus, etc

Any info would help!

I think Fairfield is comparable to Stonehill, as far as selectivity. Assumption seems not to be quite as selective. We thought all three campuses were equally beautiful. The surrounding area of Assumption and Fairfield were similar. Where Stonehill is located seemed not quite as residential. Just our opinon. Those 3 schools are at the top of my daugher’s list…it will come down to the cost/financial aid situation. We’ve only gotten Fairfield’s fin. aid package and are hoping the others may offer more merit $ than Fairfield did. Have you been to visit any of them?

Out of the 3, I have only visited Fairfield- very nice campus. I hope to visit the others when I get the chance. Have you heard anything about the diversity of students at Stonehill compared to these other schools?

I don’t know anything about that personally, but I just did a quick search and found these to check out, if you haven’t already:

There are admitted students open houses coming up for both Assumption and Stonehill that you should check out! My daughter knew whether or not she liked a school or not just by stepping onto the campus!

thanks for the links!
did your daughter have a favorite out of the three

Fairfield was her #1 choice, until the financial aid package came in! If she had gotten the Magis $20k/yr scholarship, it would have been doable. She got the $7800 Loyola and $7K in grants, but it still just too expensive. She is disappointed, but she does understand that it is just too much $ to have to borrow. If all of the others come it around the same price, we will have a lot to think about. Still holding out for Assumption, as they did not require the CSS Profile. Do you have a favorite?

I got an amount that was comparable to that of your daughters from Fairfield. I was hoping for a little more $. Fairfield was also my number one. Now, I am going to have to wait and see if I get any better offers from other schools…

Is there scholarship in between the $20,000 magis and the $7,800
loyola?

@ hereinjersey

Yeah, there are scholarships in between. Just yesterday I received the Bellarmine Scholarship with my acceptance letter. The Bellarmine Scholarship is a 13,000 dollar annual scholarship

Thank you Blang, I received the Loyola do you know what scores I needed for the Bellarmine? That $4,000 difference may decide what school I attend.

$5,000 difference…

no sorry I don’t know what scores you needed. I thought my scores were just average so I wasn’t expecting much at all. I only had a 1930 on my sat. But, my gpa was pretty good. so maybe that helped

Thanks Blang, I might have to go to another school offering more merit money. Are you going to Fairfield?
