Any news? I keep hoping admissions will send out an email in addition to the letters they are mailing today.

Nothing yet – I don’t expect to receive my decision till Monday at the earliest (though that doesn’t stop me from checking the mailbox every day :))

Daughter received call from admissions this afternoon offering her admission and full tuition scholarship! We weren’t expecting this but very happy.

travelthrulife, congratulations to your daughter! Which of the scholarships did she win?

Baywood, she received the Battelle Scholarship.

Congrats travelthrulife! Do you think they called all scholarship recipients? I was sort of hoping to win something…

vixtrader-I am not sure how they are handling scholarships. Letters went out yesterday so you should know something today or Monday. Good Luck!

Historically, beyond the real biggies like Battelle, candidates get the info in snail mail.

What classifies as a ‘biggie’ though? I was going for a 40k, and there are quite a few of those.

And scholarship sufficiently significant to merit a personal call from your admission counselor the day letters are sent.

Don’t give up hope yet, vixtrader. Perhaps only one admissions counselor felt like making personal calls on Friday, or calls only went out to Battelle recipients (restricted to residents of central OH), or nobody was home at your house on Friday when a call was made, etc.

Just came in the mail to central Ohio–large cream colored envelope–Accepted with 20K Founders Scholarship!

Large envelope with $1.30 postage on it waiting to be opened when daughter gets home! So much better than a wait list letter!

I’m all the way in NY and this waiting is killing me…
Hopefully you’re right Baywood, Denison is a wonderful school and I’d love to receive merit aid - do you know if they only have 1 of each scholarship? I know there are numerous ‘merit awards’ listed on their website, but, for instance, do they offer the Batelle to more than one candidate? That would make my chances of receiving a scholarship a little better.

I’d be confident of some help if you’re a strong student. DU’s been employing much of the benefit of its substantial endowment to “buy” good students, working to transform its now long-gone reputation of being a party-boy’s school. It’s working.

One major major change that this round of students will have chance to be part of … a new president and all the changes that event always brings. The present leader’s been very solid and steadying. And he’s smart enough to know his time is over and that new blood will bring new life. Hold on.

Letter opened-- D accepted with a very generous Founders scholarship of $20,000.00 a year. Those still waiting for mail, Denison awards multiple scholarships within the same designation, as they are actively pursuing the brightest and the best. Daughter 1 is currently a jr at Denison and couldn’t be happier. D 2 would be very happy there also, will wait to see what the next 2 weeks bring. Denison is the quintessential college campus!

vixtrader – my daughter received one of “the biggies” (a few years ago) and she learned about it in the snail mail that came with her admissions offer. No personal phone call.

Thanks for all the info everyone, it’s making the anticipation a bit easier. I’m feeling a little better about my prospects, but the process is so competitive I try not to get my hopes up too high :). College decisions are so exciting, in both good and bad ways.

Hey guys! I got admitted as a tyree scholar, so thats 80k there. Oh and also for prospective students Join this page below so you can discuss student life and upcoming activities, Get acquainted with your new classmates, find a roommate, and ask the upperclassmen questions about the University!!

PM me for the link.

Well, it’s been noted numerous times, but take heart knowing that DU is the lone LAC tier 1 school that’s been in the top 5 among colleges and universities awarding bigger % of cost to a bigger % of students over each of the past 5 or more years. It reflects the institutional strategy for attempting to re-position, re-brand itself. Seems to be working, I’d say.

In sum, if you’re good, DU will pay in part to have you join the DU campus community.
