I have been admitted to CIT in all depts other than ECE(I am waitlisted).I also have admission to UMICH engg. CIT has a lower ranking than UMICH in all depts other than ECE.What do i do?Where are my career prospects better?
Has anyone got a priority wait list(i have'nt)?

Avg salaries are still higher for CMU if that is what you are worried about. 55s-57s vs Umich's 49s and 52ks.

Not to mention you can minor in ECE/CS or double major without any restrictions.

If you really care about your future, come to the school more demanded by employers/recruiters and the school titled as the "Hottest College to get a Job".

In the last two years, I think that everyone who was a waitlist ECE got into ECE once majors were declared (second semester of freshman year). Previously students were turned away, but that was DotCom boom related, when everyone wanted to be ECE. If you do well in your classes, I don't think you should have any problem with becoming an ECE major at CMU.

Don't worry about rankings; they're both good schools. I think cost and the whole ambiance of the universities is a much bigger deal. CMU is very different than a large state school like UMich.

If I double major in CS along with an Engg, for example Mech, will this double major of CS carry as much weightage as my Mech Engg in my career placements? In other words, will the Mech Engg and CS carry the same weightage in my resume?

Yes, of course. A CS degree is a CS degree. You took the exact same courses as everyone else.

Accepted Already! I have got admission to CIT, Wait listed in ECE but rejected in SCS-computer science. When I join CIT and choose a major say, Mech Engg, can I do a double major in CS considering that I was rejected there earlier? Is there a selection process or something?
I am very very keen to join CMU provided I can do either ECE or a double major in CS. So I have been keeping this admission letter for the past 7days wondering what to do? Also, will double majoring in CS mean that I need to do one more semester or something?

You can double major anywhere providing you have a min 2.0

Uh.. accept it! Or do I have to throw more salary and job opp stats your way? :)

No. Many people complete their double majors in 4 years. You can basically replace some of your electives with required courses.

Accepted Already! You have mentioned that a CS degree is a CS degree. Does it mean that I will get two seperate degrees? One in Mech Engg and one more in CS? Some one said that I will get one degree in which both majors will be mentioned.
In CMU, one can do both double major and dual degree, is it? What is the difference between a doing a double major in Tepper from CIT Vs doing a dual degree with Tepper from CIT?
The possibilities are so many that I want to understand as much of it as possible.

Yes, you will have degrees in both Mech E and CS. This is a double major. No real difference, you get priority classes in your own school.

If you do a double major you get one degree with both subjects mentioned with your primary major first (e.g. a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a double major in Computer Science). If you do dual degrees you'll get two separate degrees (B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and B.S. in Computer Science).

Dual degrees are harder to get accepted into and tend to allow less double-counting. It's more on the level of difficulty of transferring into the college you're applying to because you technically become a member of both.
CMU is really good at jobs too....#1 in Newsweek I've been told.

Yes. This allows us to have higher avg salaries than schools ranked higher than us, Ivies included!
