Subject: Request for College Change

Dear Admissions and Enrollment,
I am a recently accepted transfer student. I was accepted into Marshall College, but would rather be in Sixth College. I feel Sixth College is a better fit for me.
my request is to change from Marshall College to Sixth College.

I really need to transfer from Sixth to Marshall, so i need your help. please let me know guys! thanks

Why such the rush to switch colleges? I got into Marshall and from what I understood the college you get into as a transfer doesn’t really matter.

@Discosteve i got into sixth about 2 years ago. its my second year and i need to transfer to Marshall this quarter in order to graduate next year. I just want to transfer to Marshall because i have taken a course for Marshall that helps me graduate earlier.

Your college choice does matter and it can matter significantly. Depending on what college you’re in, you’ll have additional GE requirements to complete. Each of the colleges have their own separate GE requirements. So what college you’re in determines which and how many GE requirements you’ll have to complete at UCSD, in addition to your major requirements if you transfer here.

For example, for Revelle college IGETC satisfies most of the GE requirements, but they also require a year of Calculus and 5 quarters of physics, chemistry, biology. Usually that’s fine if you’re a science / engineering major because you take those courses any way. But if you’re an English major and get placed in Revelle you’d have a lot of courses completely unrelated to your major to complete.

I actually wouldn’t mind switching into Sixth college, I’m in Revelle. Not because of any of the science / math requirements, I’m a Molecular Biology major and I’ve already completed them. I’m just not looking forward to finishing the foreign language requirement for Revelle. Revelle requires 4 quarters of a foreign language or demonstrated proficiency. If I were in Sixth college all I would have to take is CAT 125 and I’d be done with any GEs.

OP any chance you’d be willing to switch to Revelle? I’d love to be in Sixth. :)

@dilapidatedmind what are the requirements for Revelle for a transfer student? do you know them by any chance?

[Transfer Students IGETC/TAG](http://revelle.ucsd.edu/academics/grad-requirements/igetc-tag.html)

They can be found clicking that link under the IGETC plus tab. Revelle is seen as having some of the harder GEs, but they really aren’t that bad if you’re in one of the science / engineering majors because they already overlap with most of your major requirements. My biggest concern is that I haven’t taken a foreign language in awhile and after 3 years of spanish in high school I was kind of hoping to be done with those types of courses.

I am also looking to transfer colleges, but for a very good reason. I was admitted into Revelle College, and as the above poster said, they have the most GE requirements. As an economics major, I would have to put TWO extra years in just to graduate. I sent in an e-mail and talked to a counselor about switching colleges, but I have heard nothing back. =/

Anyone having a similar experience?

I haven’t been accepted/rejected, but I applied to the wrong college aswell.

@mermaker what college was your first option?

Given my major, I should’ve applied to muir, but I think I applied to either Roosevelt or Marshall.

if you ever got in Marshall, i can trade with you if you would like.
