Admitted to UCLA and Already Given Our 1st HW Assignment

Apparently the students at UCLA do a bit too much drinking and we all have to take an online alcohol education course and exam over the summer.

UCLA AlcoholEdu for College

...Isn't this something they should be administering to that stellar student body over at UCSB?

haha yeah my friend had to take that four years ago when she entered.

That’s hilarious. Where did you find that?

Lol I like the idea. For students that aren’t aware that alcohol is a drug, a course like this will definitely give them a heads up and ensure that people don’t dump all over their amazing opportunity via late night drunk fests and constant hangover Mondays. I personally enjoy the fact that I’m not going to a party school.

@fram: Can’t tell if serious… this isn’t going to stop anyone from drinking at UCLA.

@Evan I was going through the steps to enrollment and found it. I was like ***?

See Evan, they saw your reaction video! XD

@Grimes
Hell but it doesn’t hurt to inform students. Freshman and even some Transfers may have been living with their parents all their lives and this is their first opportunity to go out and do whatever the hell they want. They may not have a ton of knowledge concerning partying and the effects of getting completely and utterly wasted. And if that’s so, they could run the risk of getting alcohol poisoning, and of course worse, or running their educational careers right into the ground.
And I definitely never said it would stop students from drinking. I really don’t think that’s the point of the course.

@fram: It’s a good PR move, but tha’s about it. Let’s face it, kids aren’t going to watch this course and then sit there in a frat going “hmm well that course said I shouldn’t consume more than one drink in an hour and it’s only been 45 minutes… sorry guys gotta wait for that next shot!”

Oh my god, I know right? They were like “This would be beneficial for our students… especially transfers! Look at this one… Evan… taking shots just for getting in! Tragedy!”

@Grimes Lol well yeah duh, that’s a bit too literal

Most transfers are going to be 20-21. I highly doubt the majority of them have never had alcohol ;)

@Evan

The “positive reinforcement” system. Invented by Pavlov, improved by…

…undergraduates

uhg really. this is for 17-18 year olds. I’m old (21+), plus I don’t even drink.

I say don’t complain and just zone out for the majority of it. Plus you can do it whenever you want and its online. It’s like one of those idiotic DMV online tests.

I’m gonna turning it into a drinking game and take a shot every time they say the word “alcohol”

I got the same thing when I entered UCSC 2 years ago. It’s a 2 part program and I highly doubt they care that you complete it. Your college might “warn” you to take it, but half of my friends didn’t complete it and nothing happened to them.
I just minimized the window/muted sound when the video popped up and used common sense for the “quizzes.” It’s seriously like:

Your friend is drunk but he doesn’t think so and wants to drive home. What do you do?
A. Take his keys without making a scene
B. See if you can get lucky with him
C. Get in the car with him and be a rebel by not buckling up
D. Find another party, get drunk, and repeat scenario as necessary

@ UCcausualty HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

@ midnight: ditto above for answer B

is this really a requirement? if we dont attend will they void our acceptance? lol this is like a damn jury duty… how should i escape it

there’s a thread about this every year lolololol

so whats the answer? lol
