Admitted to UCLA, rejected from UCSD

I got admitted to UCLA, but rejected from UCSD. What kind of crap is that?

Stats
GPA: 4.0
Finished all pre-reqs
Lots of community service
Research
Tutor in engineering dept, and certified personal trainer
Current school: California State University

Isn't UCLA supposed to be more selective than UCSD? I guess admissions can be so random..

Yield. Schools will reject overly qualified candidates if they believe they are going to be accepted somewhere more prestigious.

i thought yield didn't matter for transfer students?

If yield concern is in fact something that actually exists, then I do not see why it wouldn't matter for transfer students. In both Freshmen Admissions and Transfer Admissions, it seem likely that a school would not want to accept someone who probably was not going to attend.

Again, this is just my theory.

But wouldn't schools want to have the most qualified applicants?
I would suspect that all colleges would like to have the most qualified applicants they can put their hands on to improve the reputation of the school. Right?

Plus, I don't think I'm that qualified..

Well just because one person gets into UCB for example that doesnt mean they are guranteed to get into all the other UCs oviously.

It could have boiled down to essays, the UCLA person liked your essays and was like "this guy is great, he struggled, we could use him and his stats are excellent" and the UCSD officer could have been like " stats are great, essay is whatever, not fit for our school"

Also they diffrent requirments so maybe your reqs were dead on for UCLA were as for UCSD you may have had less done.

Or you can just call and ask what was the factor that caused them to reject admisison.

They could have just not had space....

ya the process is really random and unpredictable. A lot of times schools are looking for particular qualities in kids...they want someone who has struggled, or they want kids who have been consistent, or they want diversity in experience....you just never know. be excited though, ucla is a better school and a much funner college town. san diego is a retirement home. everyone who goes to college here parties at sdsu. its pathetic.

yeah, my hs teacher just told me that someone from their school got accepted to berkeley but was rejected by davis..isnt that ironic

I am in the same situation with you. I got into UCLA in biz econ and got rejected in UCSD. I think UCLA is better.

I got into UCLA, but rejected from CSUN.

why were you rejected from CSUN?

Did you not fulfill the speech requirement for the CS IGETC?

I think he was kidding haha

i hope so...at my school they were there for "Automatic CSUN acceptance day: just bring your transcripts"...kinda sad.

no, i am not kidding. I didn't have speech class. But thats not a reason why they rejected me... They send me a weird looking letter listing how many units i have in each sections. They put that i have zero in physical science lab, or at least thats what i remember it saying in the letter. I took 21 units of chem... I also didn't send them my transcript cause i didn't know. But i don't thknk that was the reason either.
