Admitted to UCLA

I was shocked -- i was admitted with a 3.24 philosophy major. I guess they loved my essay (and I was TAP).

Yes there are many things beyond the numbers.

And let's be realistic about GPA's...a 3.0 is a still B average..that is above average and pretty decent.

The items beyond the humbers are:

Ethnicity

Filling a major

Essay's

These are probably the major non-numerical contributing factors.

I don't understand.....why are TAP members with good GPA's (3.2+) shocked by their admissions decision....I always thought that was guaranteed, but I've noticed a number of student in TAP with a 3.4, 3.5 to have been stunned at the decision. lol

Why join TAP if it's not guaranteed?

Regardless, congratulations once more everyone! It was a lot of fun waiting it out with you all whose stats were very impressive. I've learned to thank the good Lord that I wasn't a Bus. Econ., Biochem, or CS major.....because I wouldn't have stood a chance with my flimsy 3.85.

bruinmichelle,

TAP is priority admission, not guaranteed.

but counselors say that having a 3.2+ and tap will help u get over the hump and get admitted.

Last year, what I heard from a rep from UCLA was 60% of the admitted students were in TAP.

danzzz, i heard the opposite, majority of the people are not in TAP.

HEY EVERYONE!!!!!

YOU CAN ADD ME TO THE LIST!!!!!

UCLA SAID YES TODAY!!!

Ok thats enough caps and !!!!.
Just for people looking at the stats (Like I've been doing for the past couple days)

Admitted Major: Bussiness Economics
Current School: Cal Poly Pomona
Current Major: Economics
GPA: 3.90
Units: About 110 quarter Units--All preparatory classes dones, as well as all pre-major requirements (bussiness economics only admits only to "Pre" major status) I am 16 units short of our Cal Poly GE requirements, but only 4 units short of the comparative IGTEC (sp?) CCC people do.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you want to leave Cal Poly? It's considered by most to be a pretty good school.

haha another NON CC student gets in. Love that priority UC claim to have.

Sorry

congrats man

wow, wow, wow...
UCLA starts doing some good work for our Busi Econ-major ppl.

Anyway, say congraz to you, buddy...

Thanks guys (or gals)!

Is that so? Maybe it's just my school......they tout that TAP is guaranteed and 100% of the graduates get into UCLA, which the numbers show is the case......

Good to know, I didn't do TAP, thank God. lol I didn't have the time....

i was so tempted to drive to UCLA today and yesterday juss to get a damn sweater but i held out cuz my friend said she would buy me one on friday. =D either way....on my URSA account when i look at my Finantial aid summary it says i have nothing. Is that because i need to update my Fafsa before they will release it? Also on my epal account it doesnt list my Cal grant, only my Pell grant and University grant. Any suggestions?

niwatori, I have the same problem I think all we do is contact the cal grant program and have them add ucla to your file.

see the thing is UCLA was on my file, infact it was on the first line. confused

now you have me worried. I'm calling first thing tomorrow

anyone know when the first day of Orientation is? Classes for me end the 11th of june but i plan on leaving the country from july1-mid august. Anyone have any idea? or know what was the first day last year was?

@niwatori, first day of orientation is july 6th.

gpa: 3.98
major: Math-Econ
