Admitted to Virginia Tech second choice

My son has alot of the prerequisite courses from dual enrollment including ENGE 1024, but he was admitted to the University under second choice not the college of engineering. It seems very difficult to get the second choice major to approve the courses needed without wasting time and potentially a full year of school. Would it be better for him to finish his associates in Engineering at Virginia Western Community College and transfer in?

We also have the same problem. Got BIT (Business In Technology) rather than Comp Sci since Comp Sci is lumped into Engineering program at this particular school. Not sure if it is worth it to jump through all those hoops since classes he would need to take to jump into Engineering Dept. are not readily available to other majors and keep his gpa at a certain level etc, when really he could walk into another school and do Comp Sci with no hoops. Is Virginia Tech worth the out of state money and name recognition?? Especially if Comp Sci is white hot degree these days? Help!!!
