my status recently changed to admitted and it says Exploration Program/Science and Tech Exploration instead of my intended major (Electrical Engineering).
I have completed way more than 30 credits and my GPA is higher than 3.0. According to Admissions website, I should be admitted to an Engineering program.
Does anyone have an insight into this?
Thanks
It most likely means you need to take some exploratory classes at OSU and get a 3.0 average at OSU in order to be admitted. Did they recalculate your GPA based on the courses they are accepting? You better off calling admissions and asking.
This happens if you didn’t meet some requirement to get directly admitted into the Engineering, but you had the stats to get admitted to OSU. I’ve only seen this happening to incoming freshmen, and it’s usually because they didn’t take calculus/physics/chemistry in order to take their pre-req classes, or something on their ACT/SAT was off (like too low of a math score).
Are you able to go directly into calc I (Math 1151)? Have you met the math requirement to be able to take general chemistry? A large number of your pre-reqs require you to either have calc I completed or concur your classes with it. Were you taking engineering/STEM related classes at your previous college? These are the only things I can think of that would get you put in Exploration first.
@MassDaD68 @JBuck7 I took Calc 1 through 4, Phys 1 and 2, Chem 1. I actually had an Associate degree before applying. I got a decent GPA too.
I’ll call them to find out eventually but I’d like to wait until I have received my admission package
@mwzac01 definitely call admissions and ask why you’re now Exploration. When I applied as Pre-ChemE years ago, I was switched into Exploration until I sent in an updated transcript that showed I had completed Calc I, and suddenly I was in Engineering.
