Admitted UMich Transfer Students!

Hey everyone! I just got my admission notification from U of M and I am absolutely ecstatic.

I just had a few questions for you guys who were admitted earlier and have had time to go through some of the process.

After accepting admission to the University and paying the $200 Enrollment Deposit, what did you guys do? I didn't get any sort of acceptance email - it was only on Wolverine Access - so I don't know quite what to do next.

It said that an official letter would be coming to my house soon. Since I live in Ann Arbor, I'm guessing it shouldn't take long to get here. Did you guys get official letters and if so, how long did it take for them to arrive?

Is there any sort of action I can take beyond paying the enrollment and accepting admission? I've done that but now I'm sort of at a standstill.

Any advice or experiences would be welcome. God, it feels GREAT to be a Wolverine, doesn't it?!

I got my acceptance letter in the mail the day after my decision was on WA. I am pretty sure I just paid my enrollment deposit and waited for the housing form.

I was accepted back in January and I notified on WA first and then a few hours later I received an email as well. I received my acceptance letter in the mail the day after. And yes, it does feel GREAT to be a wolverine :)

Emaheevul07, did you already receive the housing form? Or are you still waiting? I have yet to receive anything.

I didn’t pay my enrollment deposit because I am waiting to hear from other universities, but my acceptance packet came a week and a half after my acceptance email.

I was a transfer student for Fall 2009. :stuck_out_tongue: I feel like I got my housing form sometime in march 2009, though.

I received my acceptance via email March 20th, and got my admission letter in the mail yesterday March 28th. (I’m all the way in California). I’m just as excited as any of you. It’s been my dream as a kid to be a wolverine.

I hope someone on here could help me with a couple questions that I had. To better answer my questions, I think its necessary to leave some information about myself. I spent my first year out of high school at the university of san francisco but I came home to finish up my GE’s at a community college to save money and go to a better school like Michigan. That being said, I’ve done the transitioning and have experienced living away from home.

My first question is:
-Since I am a new student and I would like the full experience, I would prefer to dorm. Is dorming as a junior normal, or are most juniors+ living off-campus in ann arbor?

-I understand that getting housing is a very difficult process ( as a freshman, I experienced that in san francisco and had to live offcampus) so in the event that I do have to live off campus, does that make a large impact on my college experience? Will it be difficult for me to socialize and meet people? How is commuting and does ann arbor offer lots of public transportation?

Most juniors and seniors live off campus. You can live in the dorms if you want, and you’ll still probably make friends there, but be prepared to be surrounded by 18 year olds-- including roommates.

Ann arbor has really nice public transportation, so I wouldn’t worry about that side of things.

The rest I can’t answer because I’ve lived in the dorms the whole time since I transferred. I did briefly commute from my parents house 20 minutes away and it was a bit of a bear, traffic was atrocious and my options were to park away from campus and take the bus (and double my commute time) or pay a fortune to park downtown. So you’ll want to stay in walking or bus distance from campus if you do end up off campus.
