Admitted with a C?

a few of us have been wondering whether it's possible to be accepted with a C, or possibly even a D on one's high school transcript. I have a stake in this (C, freshman yr algebra), and somebody else with a D in soph yr math. Along with other factors taken into consideration, does a C break an application?

If you know of anyone who's done it, please post :) If you know what saved them, mention that too. Thanks.

????????????? Anybody?

I'll let you know. I have gotten at least 3 or 4 Cs in high school.

You're waiting for a response now? How confident are you, if you don't mind my asking? as in other strengths you feel may compensate etc....

Ontolome, I know this is the Princeton forum..but if its any consolation...a rep at Yale said that they accept students that have gotten a C or so before...i wouldnt worry so much. Sorry I can't help you directly with a Princeton example but i figured that yale and pton were similar enough.

thanks. that is very reassuring :)

princeton doesnt look at freshman year grades so ur C shouldnt really play any role =)

oh yes!!!!! i'd heard that somewhere......wow. awesome. weeeeeeee :D

Why don't you make a strong argument and convince the teacher to change the grade?

It's quite legal and common.

I've heard of people doing this and becoming valedictorians. Colleges won't care, they know teachers aren't fools and have the power to alter transcripts.

But then again, don't worry about it. Really, we all know what they TRULY want---an intellectual kid.

I've heard stories of a white girl getting into Stanford with an entire semester of Cs because she had AWESOME essays (meaning they were equal to, and maybe even better than the kind of writing Pulitzer prize winners regularly come up with.)

In the end, however, I think everyone knows at the bottom of their heart whether they'll be accepted or rejected. It's pretty simple to figure out:: Given your background, have you done EVERYTHING you could possibly do to help your chances? If you haven't, that's where the uncertainty comes from.

i wouldn't approach the teacher. even if it means losing out on the ivies. i deserved the grade. i'd be mortified. call it pride, but i ain't doin it :)
what you say makes sense.

hey i give you props for admitting u deserved the C. sometimes that's better than just being in denial. live and learn, eh? maybe that'll make you even BETTER princeton material....in a crazy sort of way.

Yeah, I'm also worried due to my POOR freshman grades. Well, let's see what happens. I will try to make the best of what I have and I will continue to work hard and succeed.
