Hi, everyone. I applied UCSD computer science / computer engineering, but was admitted without major. Anyone has the similar problem? What does this mean? Many thanks

I applied for Computer Science and Computer Engineering but was admitted without any major mentioned, although when you select “Next” and then select “Review” it should say “Undeclared”.

I’m assuming that this is because CS/CE was an impacted major and we were admitted to Undeclared instead.

Which college did you get into?

Congratulations!!

Thanks. I got into Muir, what about you?

Congratz!

I had the exact same situation as you, and after doing a bit of research, they sat that if you aren’t qualified enough for the impacted CS major, they instead admit you to your second choice major (non-impacted ofc) which in this case is Undecided.

However during your third year at UCSD it is possible to reapply for your intended major, but this time they will consider you off of your college GPA and pre-reqs, so theres always a chance down the road.

P.S: I got into Warren :P

Thanks to f2loop.

Hope we can get into CS/CE in the future.

Congrats to you too!

I had the exact same issue. I got into Sixth College as undeclared. I definitely put Warren first but that’s whatever. The other thing I don’t understand is that I am “not qualified enough for the impacted major” yet I am a senior taking Computer Science classes at my local Cal State University. But I guess I am not the only one haha. Good job everyone!

If you apply to two impacted majors, you are only considered for ONE major. If you don’t get into that major, you will be placed as UNDECLARED. You can declare an open major once you have registered for Fall courses. For impacted majors, you need to contact the department that houses the major you want to switch.
