Vietnamese Student Association, although he's Caucasian. He took Mandarin all through HS, and now has taken Japanese and Mandarin at Merced - so Asian studies will probably be one of his majors. (My wife and I joke that we see why he became as officer of the VSA, once we saw how cute the president of that club was ;-).)

"Growing pains" = not all classes offered or available every semester; still in scale-up mode, so some typical college activites - like sports teams - are lacking; smallish campus, so to some, it feels too much like a high school or junior college in physical appearance; school newspaper still getting off the ground (so it publishes irregularly).

Student body diversity is very, very high: about 1/3 Hispanic, just under 1/3 Asian, less than 1/3 white.

um, it would probably be a wise idea to know what your interested in and to check out some of the majors that uc merced offers (a limited selection)

let me just say one other thing, my friend goes to this school and he does research with some of the faculty. He says that the professors are flexible and willing.
my friend told me that there wasnt much to do during the weekend, and its true, there isnt. i visited him and the dorms were pretty much asleep the whole saturday, and sunday.

i received an email today about being accepted event though i didnt even apply. its probably because i applied to some of the others UCs and didnt get in. lol oh well its just another option for me. :)

the same thing happened to me, i got an acceptance letter from Uc merced even though i did not apply, does this have anything to do with that special program where you are guaranteed a transfer to another UC?

Just checked and admitted too, but not too big of a surprise. Still crushed got I got rejected at all the UC's I had hoped I would get into: Davis, SC, SD!!!

Good luck, i just recieved my acceptance in the mail today, so excited!! I figured i would get in because i had alumni connections. Man this makes my day a crapload better.
