Hello everyone!

Just wondering is A Day On College Hill this overnight event?

(& whose going?!)

Yes, it is an overnight event. You stay with a host, which is a student and like follow them around and stuff like that, just to get a good feel of Brown.

Ohhh! Cant wait! Thanks! :)

Itās for newly accepted students so youāll get a sense of what your incoming class will be like. Itās especially good for those who are still undecided between Brown and other schools, as you get a feel for life there. That was the case for my son who had not visited Brown til after he was accepted and went to ADOCH two years ago. Despite the fact that it poured rain for most of the weekend, the time there convinced him to go for it, and heās been happy with his decision!

Does anyone know if they provide financial assistance to make it to ADOCH?

^^Would seriously like the answer to this question.

Iām not really sureā¦ maybe you should just call the admissions office and ask?

But Iām going! Iām really excited :D

I highly recommend that if you can go, do it. My daughter, currently a senior at Brown, met several people at ADOCH who are her very best friends to this day. Donāt quite know how that happened; it seems like chance, but itās true. She was very nervous before she went, but it totally sealed the deal for her four years ago. Congratulations!

Can you attend classes at ADOCH? Being feted is nice and all that, but it would be important to get a sense of the real deal on actual education ā e.g., do students show up, text, facebook, yawn, etc. etc. while some TA drones on in semi-accented English?

I got an email this morning and they said that they will send me to ADOCH for free if I call a specific number ASAP. Calling would provide me with free round-trip air travel, as well as travel from and to the airport. The email subject line reads, āCome Visit Brown University On Us!ā If you qualify, Iām guessing they will notify you in some way. But, in my opinion, I wouldnāt want you to wait too long; if I were you, I would set my deadline at when I receive my letter in the mail because that would be their final contact until they want more info regarding matriculation. If you canāt wait, call and see if you qualify.

Iām also a āstudent of colorā so they invited me to a program called TWW (Third World Welcome) which goes on the days following ADOCH. So if you are an African American, Asian American, Latino, Native American, or bi/multiracial, you may be invited to this program that starts on April 12th and ends on the April 13th.

I hope that I have helped you! Iām so thankful to be getting a free trip! Canāt wait to meet all these future Brown Bears!

My son also got an email today with a free flight offer. He separately received an invitation to join a STEM presentation for math and science geeks. It is not clear to me if these two presentations overlap or if they are sequential. Anyone know?

My son attended the STEM presentationāitās one segment of ADOCH and worth going to if thatās his interestāCongrats!

Hoping that we can somehow get my D a travel grant, didnāt get an email today. :-(

2011VAMom: You can call and ask. Donāt get your hopes up, though.

2011VAMom, since I assume you are in Virginia, there is a very neat train that starts in DC and picks up kids all the way up to Brown. My son had a concert that night so could not do this last year. I know Amtrack isnāt cheap, but it might be the more economical and fun way for your daughter to get to Brown.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I booked a cute B&B that is about a 15 min walk.

Looking forward to our visit and getting some exercise going up the hill!

Thanks again all!

When was ADOCH this year or when will it be?

It was April 11th and 12th.
