Other than the “save the date” included in the Honors College Invitation letter, has anyone received any instructions on how to register for the Alumni Distinguished Scholarship competition in early 2017?
@bluecker My daughter received a formal invitation in the postal mail today. It contained a brief overview on the weekend, a description of the exam, and a list of the scholarships. It also provided a link to use for registering for one of the two weekends and to pay for the event ($65). I’m sure you’ll receive a similar envelope in the next day or so. We live in Missouri.
I’m interested to see my daughter’s reaction to East Lansing in late January! We get some snow, ice, and cold weather in St. Louis, but nothing like Michigan! Ha! She’s also been accepted to University of Alabama and is applying to a competitive fellows program which may involve an interview in Tuscaloosa in early February. If she is selected for an interview – I’ll be very curious to see what “winter” looks like in the south!
Thanks. We did get the invite in the mail yesterday. We are from Chicago, so no worries on the East Lansing winters, although the drive around Lake Michigan in the wintertime is brutal at times. We have visited campus a couple of times over the summer, so it will be nice to get the winter perspective as well.
my son got his ADS invite today. does MSU offer to fly OOS students in? we are in NC.
@Wien2NC I don’t think MSU offers any compensation towards the travel costs for the event. It seems like in previous years they did provide a small amount to assist with the costs (according to postings on the forum as well as correspondence I had with an Arizona-based contestant’s father). It also appears that MSU used to provide Friday night’s lodging at the Kellogg Center for the students (not families) and this is also no longer offered.
MSU is sending out invites for $200 travel grants to attend an ADS weekend. Check your email.
this is interesting. we attended the ADS this past weekend. now my son just got an email from MSU saying they are sending a travel voucher check.
