Adult kid’s birthday

My oldest was away at school for her last four birthdays so we didnt spend with her. She lives 3000+ miles away so won’t spend it with her this year either.

In my immediate family, my father, brother, brother’s daughter, my daughter and I all have May birthdays. My parents’ anniversary (same as my daughter’s birthday) and Mother’s Day also in May. We all live in the same metro area so typically plan for one Sunday in May to have a family get together to celebrate all the events on one day. Long ago I told H that he had to cook and clean since he was the only adult who wasn’t being celebrated. :slightly_smiling_face: Just kidding of course. We all pitch in.

Generally speaking, we celebrate our kids (adults and teens) with a homemade meal, menu of their choice, and gifts. Two won’t be home for their birthdays this year, so I will treat D and her boyfriend to a dinner out where they live. My son will be at college with friends so will arrange for him and his roommates to have a nice meal out. Gifts will be sent to them.

I’m almost 40… do I still count as an adult kid? haha. My sister and I go out for dinner every year with our folks and our significant others. We each get to pick the restaurant. We do the same thing for my parents birthdays as well… but with them picking the restaurant.

We also gift experiences. Last year it was a spa day and a tasting dinner (she turned 21). Last year was the only year we’ve had her home for her BD since she left for college.
We’ve gifted trips, park passes, meals, show tickets, etc…

My annual gift to my adult son is to pay for a cleaning woman to come to his apartment once a month. Little does he know it is also a gift to myself (apartment is so much cleaner when I visit) as well!!
